An Efficient multi-constrained feasible path selection for MANET

Abstract—Quality-of-service (QoS) routing in an Ad-Hoc network is difficult because the network topology may change constantly and the available state information for routing is inherently imprecise. This paper proposes a method for multi-constrained feasible path selection for MANET. We introduce the composite function which allows OLSR to find the feasible path in case of multiple routes are available to reach the same destination. Combinations of additive and non additive QoS metrics are considered to find the best path. Our simulation results show that the QoS version of the OLSR do improve the Packet Delivery Ratio, Throughput, Normalized control overhead, End-to-End delay and Packet loss but with the increased time complexity.

Introduction

A Mobile Ad Hoc Network is a set of mobile nodes that are equipped with wireless transmitters and receivers which allow them to communicate each other without the infrastructure. Since there is no infrastructure is used for networking the central administration for the network is not required. Each transmitter has a limited effective range; the nods within the coverage are able to communicate directly otherwise the nodes are communicated through a multi-hop basis. There are number of applications for this type of network. A group of moving soldiers in a battlefield communicates and coordinates with each other. A group of people with portable computers share their data in a conference room without laying cables between them.

    AODV has pooled properties of both DSR and DSDV. It uses route discovery process for sustaining route information through the basis of routing table. It is a reactive protocol as it doesn’t need to establish or maintain routes to nodes that are not involved in the communication. AODV handles route discovery process with Route Request (RREQ) messages to broadcast to neighbour nodes. The message floods through the network till the desired destination is reached. Sequence number guarantees the loop freedom. The destination node at once receiving a RREQ unicasts a Route Reply (RREP) back to the source node. Node transmitting a RREP message creates routing table entries for forward route. For route maintenance, nodes send HELLO messages intermittently to neighbour nodes. If any node in the network miss the mark to receive three consecutive HELLO messages from its neighbour, it presumes that link to that particular node is down. A node that perceive a broken link directs a Route Error (RERR) message to any upstream node. At once a node receives a RERR message it will signpost a new source discovery process.     The need for computers of networks with guaranteed quality of service is widely recognized today. Unlike todays best effort networks like the Internet, where the user has no guarantee on the performing it may expect from the network, Quality of service networks guarantee the end user application a certain level of performance.
