Weird and Wonderful Puberty | OK, so it’s a funny word, but what is puberty anyway? Dictionary Meaning: the period during which adolescents reach maturity and become capable of reproduction. Human beings are complex things. When you’re at school, you’re expected to get your homework handed in on time and go through puberty too. Compared to us, caterpillars have it easy. They spin a cocoon around themselves and then, bingo! A few weeks later they emerge as butterflies. Or maybe a moth. Whereas kids have to go from being kids to adults and learn about the mysterious ‘facts of life’ on that journey. Your body changes, but you don’t get to stay in a cocoon while it’s happening. | So one morning you wake up, you talk and you sound like a rooster, you sing and you croak like a frog. And you think: what is happening to me.Well, this is just your voice cracking. Well, it’s just the androgens in your body. Androgens are hormones that control your male characteristics. They increase the size of your voice box. | During puberty a boy can produce enough sweat to fill a 6 pack of beer in just one hour of exercise. NO wonder the girls at dance sport try to stay away from us!This is because Sweating is when your body produces fluids which come out of your sweat glands to cool your body down. Millions of sweat glands become active during puberty. | One day your dad comes up to you and starts talking about shaving lessons, and you thinking, why do I need to shave, I’m not hairy, and then you go to look in the mirror, and starring right back at you is a bear!Well one of the first signs of puberty is hair growing where it didn't grow before. Guys and girls both begin to grow hair under their arms and in their pubic areas. It starts out looking light and sparse. Then as you go through puberty, it becomes longer, thicker, heavier, and darker. Eventually, guys also start to grow hair on their faces.
