PostLabor Day Letdown Essay Returning to school or work after a summer vacation can be hard. Although some people are happy to go back to work and occupy themselves, it can be extremely dreadful for others. Labor Day can make different people feel a certain way. To some people, Labor Day stands as a symbol of a fresh start while for others, it represents the misery of going back to work. According to the Article “The PostLabor Day Letdown” by
Melina Beck, some people experience Post Vacation Syndrome (PVS). This Syndrome results in anxiety, lack of motivation, difficulty concentrating and a feeling of emptiness during the first few weeks of returning to work. There is a lot of factual information that is used to back up this idea. Most of the research is professionally studied and scientifically proved. However, some evidence is stronger than others.
This article provides a lot of evidence. This article is mostly scientific because almost all of the information comes from professional doctors, journals, or studies. For example, a study of 96 Dutch workers “found that health and wellbeing returned to pre vacation levels during the first week back at work.” This was conducted by professionals and published in the journal Work and Stress. The article also states information and then tells the readers where that information came from, weather it was a journal or a person. For example, after the article explains to be alert for symptoms of Post Vacation
Syndrome, it refers to its source, “...says Katherine Muller, assistant director of the
Center for Integrative Psychotherapy in Allentown, P.a.” The article gives a thorough description of who the person is. her occupation/position and her location. Some evidence is slightly stronger scientifically than others because of its accuracy. Not all the people who are mentioned in this article are 100% correct but they are

The public definitely suffer from the strike. It was especially hard for low income residents that could not pay for an alternative way to get to work or school. Because of this hardship, many New York residents remain at home. “Scores of commuters walked, pink-faced and sniffling, to their final destinations, across bridges, down busy avenues, where the determined but agree face its people will not let commerce stop” (2005). Strangers even started riding together in order to get to work. All in all, it was not a good time for New Yorkers. As businesses suffered just a few days for the holidays, Christmas seemed to have come early for New Yorkers this year.…

A Day without Immigrants underlines the contributions of immigrants at every level, specially in the business field. Business owners, such as restaurants, supermarkets, and shops, closed their business for a day to allow people experience inconvenience and to emphasize importance of the immigrants. Employees took a day off and students were absent from school to express discontent about the executive orders by holding the march. Personally, I feel immigrants, at some point, are considered as a minority group in the America. They have to go through lots of difficulties to come a U.S citizen to be able to have a better life, to achieve the American Dream. High percentage of the newcomers are blue-collar. They work hard, regardless of work condition,…

Day of the Dead is celebrated in the beginning of November by mainly Latin American countries. In Mexico, it is a major holiday and taken very seriously. It is a celebration in which the dead are joined with the living. Those from the afterlife come in contact with life on earth and partake in both scared and joyous festivities. The dead come as spirits from their afterlife to rejoin their families and visit their homes. It is a time when the deceased are able to enjoy once again the pleasures of life. This holiday is unlike any other. This holiday gives believers the ability to somewhat under stand the afterlife or at least connect with it. It functions as a "ritualistic elaborate celebration of life, rather than a sober mourning of its passing." By rejoicing in bright colors, extravagant outfits and giving gifts of food and spices Mexicans as well as other cultures are able to cope with mortality.…

The benefits of taking time away from work focus heavily on the health and mentality of the individual worker. Overexertion and exhaustion can be incredibly damaging to one’s physical and mental wellbeing, often resulting in ailments such as headaches, anxiety, fatigue, and even depression (Stöppler). Vacations allow for a momentary escape from daily pressures, resulting in an elevated emotional status, lower blood pressure, and less depression. This increase in personal happiness may lead in an increase in both creativity and productivity as one is allowed to refresh their minds and rest (Blank).…

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who perished while serving in the military, a day to honor the soldiers who died while defending America. Our three day weekend in May is a wonderful time to get together with friends and family. To most of us, Memorial weekend it means no school/work and an extra day off. Memorial Day is so much more than a day off to have fun. Most students do not really even understand why they get school off; a lot of adult use this time for cookouts or parties. Memorial Day is a day where we, as Americans, should honor our fallen soldiers.…

It is important for the employee to return to work as quickly as possible. Returning to work helps the employee both financially and psychologically. An employee away from work for an extended period of time can lose their job skills and may feel alienated from their coworkers. People need to feel productive and like they are contributing to society, working is linked to self worth. The longer an injured employee is away from work the lower their self esteem can become. Another benefit of returning to work is that the employee will typically heal faster than an employee that remains at home. It was just another holiday near the end of summer that in a sense signified the coming of school just as Harry said. I never understood why people took it so seriously. Of course the first thing that pops to my mind about Labour Day is the, ‘Don’t wear white after Labour Day’ rule, but I always neglected it. It also signifies a lot in my household. My parents are typically more left wing on the political spectrum so I remember growing up, going to the parade or protest if you will, and celebrating all the achievements of the workers. It also meant that i was closer to seeing some of my friends that I hadn’t seen for two months. Showing them how much I’ve grown, since I was typically the short kid in the class and grew many inches over the course of summer, where I went, what I did, that kind of stuff. That’s pretty much all that it meant to me, just another holiday where my parents dragged me out to watch a parade and one that signified the coming of the new school…

Those who work more labor intensive jobs are less likely to return and remain at work. Workplace adjustments may need to be investigated prior to returning to work. A reduction of working hours seemed to be the most important for a person suffering from chronic pain. Although the work itself can be an issue, other factors such as emotional stress, relation with coworkers, and work satisfaction can also be influential. Good communication with employers and coworkers is important for a successful return to work (Jakobsen & Lillefjell, 2013, p. 52).…
