Introduction to Psychology, PSY101
Term Paper Guidelines and Instructions
Due Date: TBA

1. Write a paper minimally five full pages in length that covers a topic in Psychology and then illustrates, through your own personal examples and life experiences, how this topic applies to you. Part One of the paper should be a clear concise summary of the topic 's main ideas and contributions to Psychology, and should be a minimum of 2.5 pages long. In Part Two, illustrate the topic covered in the first part of the paper with personal experiences and examples from your life. (By applying your personal experience to the topic, ideally you will better understand who you are, who you want to be, your behavior, and what is important to you.) This second part of the paper should be a minimum of 2.5 pages in length. Be sure to include an introduction and conclusion in your paper. s 2. You may use any of the topics covered in the Ciccarelli textbook. It is also possible to use a different topic with my approval. Your selected topic must be approved by the instructor.

3. You should have at least 5 sources in your paper, and you may use your notes and textbook. The best sources are original research studies published in professional journals. The number of electronic sources should be limited to one. Make sure you cite these sources in standard APA reference and citation style (see item 6).

4. The paper must be word-processed. Use one-inch margins for the top, bottom and margins of the paper, double-spacing and a font size no larger than 12. Put a separate title page that includes your name on the front of the paper, and a reference page at the end.

5. Pay attention to writing mechanics. Poor sentence construction, typos, bad paragraphing, and unclear style will lower your grade. Furthermore, a short paper will get a short grade. However, there is no maximum limit. Late papers will not be accepted.

6. Reference citation format and example: Direct

My hope for this literature review is to shine some light on a prevalent issue that affects college students all over the United States. Binge drinking and eating disorders are becoming the two biggest health-related issues on college campuses. They can lead to alcohol abuse, obesity, and a host of other ailments. A web-based study (Weeder, 2011) from a private university collected data using a very descriptive self-report survey. The students were offered extra credit if they completed the survey. The students were emailed, and also told that not completing the survey would not hurt their grade. They used courses that represented a large cross-section of students. A total of 211 undergraduate students participated in the study. They used male and female samples. Binge drinking in this sample was very high for males, 86% of male students and 63% of females reported binge drinking within the past two weeks. Binge eating was reported lass than binge drinking 48% of the sample was reported. The percentage of females who did both was 34% and for males it was 39%. The results of this survey were high compared to the national date comprised before hand. Also the students of this survey were predominately white and have been known to binge drink more than other racial groups (Wechsler, 2002) There are some limitations that can affect the validity of the survey. Students could have been untruthful when answering the survey; also extra credit was offered to them to complete the survey. Women also had more risky weight loss behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, laxatives, diet pills, and skipping meals.…

Stress tends to affect the brain in many ways, however, it is due to trauma at different stages in life that will presumably have different effects on the brain, for instance, it can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. When my father was a child he saw an uncle of his killed by a Doberman Pincher, this caused him to become a victim of PTSD. The PTSD transformed the manner in which he reacts to Dobermans and all other types of dogs he comes in contact. As a child, my siblings and I were never allowed to have any sort of pet. It was as if it were a sin to come into contact with an animal. However, now that Abraham, who is the oldest of the boys in the family, married an animal fanatic they own; a horse, three miniature ponies, two dogs which…

I was born in the late 60’s to the parents of first generation Americans. My grandparents migrated to America through Canada from Scotland in the early 1930’s. Eventually, both sides of the family landed in the Black Hills of South Dakota. My father’s side of the family worked at Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota and my mother’s side of the family ran a trailer park in Hill City while my Grandfather worked at Mount Rushmore. After my parents married, my father followed his father by working at Homestake, while my mother was a stay at home mom. We lived on a hillside over the fairgrounds in Deadwood on Railroad Avenue. My father’s parents lived next door to us. Due to the fear of landslides, the city of Deadwood forced my grandparents and us to move off the hillside. As of 2008, the houses were still on the hillside, granted they slid downhill slightly. It is amazing how tiny the houses are, I would say no more than 400 to 500 square feet, and there were 5 of us who lived in the house. When I was about four years of age, we left the Black Hills and moved to a small mining town in Colorado called Creede. It is here I remember being left handed and having to learn to do things differently. I guess I go against the grain with handedness, according to our studies it suggests it is linked by a genetic basis. (Linke & Kersebaum, 2005) No one else in the family has been left handed, and even today I am still the only one. I still do things different from left or right handed people because I had to learn my own way. I started school while living here; we had a one room school house, and I remember we would follow the creek line down to school and back up the creek line to get home. I remember having a skunk get in the garage, our house was a bi-level with the laundry room…
