One of the goals of behavioral genetics is to identify the heritability of a particular behavior. Heritability is the amount of variance in observed behaviors among people that can be explained by genetics. Review this week’s reading and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of some of the methods used to determine heritability in humans. Address the use of adoption studies and twin studies, as well as shared environmental factors and unique environmental factors. Your initial post should be a minimum of 250 words and utilize at least one peer-reviewed source that was published within the last five years, cited according to APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts. Respond substantively to two peers whose perspective was different from yours. Describe one strength and one weakness of your peer’s interpretation. How is it possible, when referring to scientific methods, for the interpretation of these methods to be so varied? Develop good study habits while in high school. College professors normally expect that students in their classes know the proper way to study for exams, write term papers and how to research information. By learning this while in high school you can ensure success in college. If you do not have good study habits, ask for help.

Genes; are inherited from parents. Many psychological disorders occur more frequently in identical (monozygotic or MZ) twins than they do in non-identical (dizygotic or DZ) twins, and other disorders appear to run in families. The environment may also lead to these disorders and so it is important to estimate the degree to which a disorder is due to genetic influences (nature) and the degree to which it is caused by the environment (nurture). Comparing identical twins with non-identical twins for rates of heritability can help answer the nature-nurture question.…

I believe that it is flawed to ask how much of a particular behavior is due to genetics and how much to experiences, because it is a rigid explanation that tries to attribute a particular proportion to each part. The key point is to recognize the complex collaboration of both nature and nurture; the environment inputs along with the genetic code play and important role on human development. As a result, each person develops different types of personalities. Besides, scientists, still have many types of challenges ahead behind human nature.…

Researchers today continually make efforts in trying to figure out how children develop through our environment. Some of this can be explained through interactions that are called heredity-environment correlations, which is, individuals’ genes for which you are exposed to may influence your environment. According to Sandra Scarr, children develop by three kinds of genotype and how their heredity and environment are correlated. The first is a passive kind, in which the parents who are genetically related to the child deliver a rearing environment similar to the parents’ genetic disposition. The second is an evocative kind, whereby the child’s characteristics receive response from…
