Fee-for-service payment method is based on provider charges which also mean the fee is paid after the patient receives services from the doctor. Fee-for-service would consist of the patient paying his or her monthly payment on time and then when visiting the doctor unless there is a co pay or a procedure that is done that day then there is no payment needed. If by chance there is a procedure done that day then before leaving there might be a cost when the medical biller bills the company the health insurance company might give the money back that you had to pay out of pocket. So the relationship between provider, patient, and the payer would be that the patient comes to see the provider for health issues, and the patient might have to pay a co pay, then the medical biller bills the payer and then the provider gets paid. Capitation is a fixed payment to a medical provider for all necessary services. This payment is received before the patient is seen and is received monthly even if the holder is not medically seen that month. The relationship between these is like this: the patient pays a monthly payment of the same rate every month to the payer who then pays the provider. The provider does take a chance of having to take a loss this way because all the patients are paying a set rate every month which covers whatever needs to be done. This means that if the patient comes in to be seen one time a month the provider took his chance and benefitted from this. Another occasion could happen and the patient be seen twenty times in that same month and still only had to pay that monthly rate and the provider would then be losing on his…

The Bystander Effect is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to situations in which individuals do not extend any means of help to a victim when others are present. One clear cause that underlies the basis of this occurrence is the number of people or, bystanders, involved. While this argument forms the basis of the effect, I also believe that ambiguity, or in this case, the diffusion of responsibility amongst those present, plays a deeper role in the passivity of the bystanders. I believe that as the number of bystanders increases, they will each experience a diminished responsibility towards aiding the person in need and as a result, ignore or pay minimal attention to the victim.…

There are many factors that can influence a person’s interpretation of a situation. Cultural background, religion, prior experiences, or something as simple as a person’s mood can affect the outlook they have toward situations. Two individuals can witness the same event and have opposite reactions or interpretations of the incident. One instance of this can be illustrated by the observations of interaction between a group of friends and a man who was seemingly down on his luck.…

health care system is dysfunctional and can no longer continue as it currently operates. With or without Affordable Care Act (ACA), there is a need for a deep change. The United States spends more money on health care because a nation is less healthy on the average than the rest of the developed world. The system is dysfunctional and ACA is fast-tracking the process of changes that will be faced by the economic and business challenges by health care organizations. The required adjustments to healthcare organizations operating budgets and methodologies for delivering medicine may become a big issue. Health care organizations will have to go from volume-based reimbursement in medicine based on the number of procedures done or patients seen to a value-based system that will give the same money for every patient regardless of the procedure performed. Health care organizations may have lower income since they will treat more patients. They may face cost-pressure factors such as the overall cost of medical care and the increased incidence of chronic disease, cost transparency and reference pricing, increased government role in paying for care, increased coverage and limited highly skilled medical workforce There is a prediction that forty million more people will be covered nationally, at reimbursement rates below the cost of providing that care (Adams et al.,…

With health care reform taking full effect, various changes are emerging with regard to health care provider reimbursements. Third-party and government payers are rapidly moving toward pay-for-performance approaches that emphasize the quality rather than the quantity of health care services. Pay-for-performance initiatives have the capability of significantly impacting reimbursements based on whether or not and to what extent certain performance outcomes are met. At the same time, health care providers and consumers are both positively and negatively affected by pay-for-performance programs. While the future of pay-for-performance programs is unknown, it can be assumed that health care providers will likely carry increased pressures with regard to outcome responsibilities. With the continual addition of regulations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), demands to consistently provide high-quality care will increase.…
