Psalm Sixty-Three, The Book Of Romans, And The Gospel Of Matthew
The readings this Sunday come from the Prophet Jeremiah, Psalm Sixty-Three, The Book of Romans, and the Gospel of Matthew. The readings this week are not big on praise but they still have lessons that they can teach us. They give the message of offering ourselves for the greater glory of God.
The first reading this week is by Jeremiah, Chapter 20 verses seven through nine. It describes the agony that we go through when we are forced to be silent about what we believe in. Jeremiah describes this feeling when he says, “But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones”(Jer 20:9). I can relate this to my life when I am with individuals who don’t believe what I do. I would like to be able to talk and profess what I believe but fear being mocked and made fun of.
The Responsorial Psalm this week comes from Psalm 63. It tells how …show more content…
This doesn’t mean literally sacrifice ourselves, it means give our lives to Christ. It tells us not to give our lives to worldly things, rather give them to God and praise him.
The gospel this week is Jesus explaining to his apostles that he must die and be raised on the third day. Peter responds saying, "God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you”(Mt 16:24). Jesus said to Peter that he was thinking like a human and not as God does. We can take away from this that even If we don’t understand what God’s plan for us is because we don’t think like he does and we don’t know what he has instore for us.
After reading all of these readings we can take away a few things. We should embrace the opportunity that we have to live our faith. Some places in the world aren’t allowed to worship how they please. We should embrace our ability to worship freely. We should also try to be open minded to what God has instore for us.
