Prostitution in the Philippines is illegal, but widely prevalent. Penalties range up to life imprisonment for those involved in trafficking, which is covered by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.[1] Prostitution is often available through bars, karaoke bars (also known as KTVs), massage parlors, brothels (also known as casa), street walkers, andescort services.[2]
In 2013 it was estimated that there were up to 500,000 prostitutes in the Philippines.[3] In her “Anti-Prostitution Act” (Senate Bill No. 2341), Senator Pia S. Cayetano cites the number of women being exploited in prostitution in the Philippines now ballooning to 800,000.[4]

Overpopulation in the Philippines
In each country, there are tons of social issues. Over in the Philippines, social issues keep on coming. Recently, there has been an issue on plagiarism, RH Bill, disrespect on police officers and a lot more. But the issue that stood out is overpopulation in the country. For Philippines is not only overpopulated mainly by Filipinos but also of different nationalities. Maybe the cause of overpopulation is because of the Koreans, Chinese, Americans and the Middle East. But yet again, it is not assured because they might be staying in the Philippines for only about a month or a year.
There are a lot of reasons as to why the Philippines is overpopulated. One reason, or I was able to think of, is Pre-Marital Sex. We learn from the Bible that sex before marriage is a sin and yet a lot of people do it. Some happens accidentally but some do it on purpose. Another cause of overpopulation is unprotected sex. Maybe one of the reasons as to why people do it is mainly just because of pleasure. Come to think of it, I ask myself 'why do they do it when they know that it could actually lead to something bad?' This is a cause of overpopulation because the child born was just mainly an accident. These couples did not want to have a child in the first place and that one child is a big contribution to

Estimates indicate that there are anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 prostitutes in the US. All countries have sizable domestic populations of women engaged in prostitution, ranging from .25 to 1.5 percent of the population in Asia and the United States (Henslin, J. 2003). Much larger percentages of men, however, are paying for sex. Ninety five percent of Thai men and seventy percent of men living in London have at some point in their life have purchased sex (White, L. 2004). Also large numbers of the men abuse the women they interact with, indeed violence is common to the life of a prostitute. In Canada, women and girls in prostitution had a mortality rate 40 times higher than the national average. In the United States, it is estimated that seventy percent of prostitutes annually experience multiple rapes, some women are raped once a week.…

Over-population is a very big problem. It leads to many other issues because if a couple that lives in poor conditions have kids, these children will grow up to a very bad education, few job opportunities, and possibilities to turn to violence and crimes to survive. And it's a cycle because if they have kids, the story repeats itself. The worst part of this is that it's unusual for these people to have only one child, they normally have a lot more.…

Prostitution is the procedure of supplying sex to someone, the ‘john’, usually through females, earning money in return for the job done. It’s illegal in numerous countries but is continuous regardless. Some countries located mostly in Southeast Asia, and a few states in the United States of America, such as Nevada, legalize prostitution, while others prohibit such acts. Sex-trafficking, rape, AIDS/HIVS/STDS, child prostitution, and forced prostitution are only some of the major reasons prostitution should fundamentally be illegal. Data and statistics show a lot more information and legitimate reasons for prostitution to be illegal.…

To begin with, prostitution’s legalization with rules setting prostitutes’ rights and duties will help to provide them with a better working condition. In present situation, sex workers are being treated in a subhuman way. Suraya, a sex worker was reported to have been beaten, threaten by a knife, raped many times, stolen all money and finally thrown out of the car by her own customer (Pauw and Brener,1998). Not only be customers’ victims, prostitutes also are exploited by their pimps. Kudlow (2006) found that “even though the girls take home the cash, make no mistakes, the pimp gets all the money. There is no such thing as a commission, percentage, cut, kickback, or dividend”. Moreover, according to Fighting sexual exploitation and trafficking in Indonesia (2004), in Indonesia, one third of sex workers are being underage girls. These girls have not grown up both physical part and mental part, but they are swept into this job too early, which can turn them to a disastrous end. These raw facts, which are requiring for an urgent action from the government, set an alarm to wake us up. If there is an official legalization along with rules setting about prostitutes’ rights and duties, the pimps will no longer be able to coerce these sex workers, these workers can receive their salary fairly and underage girls will be prevented from entering this job too early.…

Sex tourism is the term used for travel with the intent to engage in sexual activity. The United Nations World Tourism Association defines sex tourism in their Global Code of Ethics for Tourism as "trips organized from within the tourism sector, or from outside this sector but using its structures and networks, with the primary purpose of effecting a commercial sexual relationship by the tourist with residents at the destination. The Philippines, like some other Southeast Asian countries, has an unfortunate reputation for prostitution and sex tourism. It’s a huge industry domestically with an estimated 800,000 men, women and, sadly, children working in the trade. The country’s international image as a sex destination was largely a result of the US military presence here during and after World War II when “go go” or “girlie” bars flourished around the bases at Clark and Subic Bay. While it’s illegal to sell or procure sex, the trade still operates under the guise of entertainment: sex workers are employed as singers, dancers, waitresses or “guest relations officers” in clubs and bars where they are expected to leave with any client who pays a fee. Then there’s what are euphemistically dubbed “freelancers”, prostitutes that independently cruise bars looking for paying customers. According to the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women ,some fifteen thousand Australian men a year visit Angeles, north of Manila, on sex tours; plenty of Americans, Brits and Europeans join them, while Koreans, Taiwanese and Chinese have developed their own networks, usually based on karaoke bars and restaurants. Manila, Cebu City, Subic Bay and Pasay City are also major sex destinations. “Child prostitution”…

There are too many women and girls who are lured to prostitution. Men and boys are also being exposed for sexual purposes. In the 1998 study by the International Labor Organization (ILO), it was estimated that there were at least 400,000 to 500,000 prostituted persons in the Philippines with an estimated 60,000 to 100,000 children. In 2004, the number of those exploited in prostitution alone reached 600,000 and it ballooned to 800,000 in 2005. In a 2009 study, there were around 800,000 prostituted persons in the Philippines; half of them are children. Annually, it is estimated that 3,266 children are forced into prostitution. The Philippines ranks fourth among the nations with the most number of children in prostitution as revealed in a study of UNICEF. Prostitution may now be the country’s fourth largest source of GNP according to the study by the Psychological Trauma Program of the University of the Philippines.2…

Prostitution has always been known to society and supported by some. It is a - branch of the sex industry. Prostitution is the act of “selling” one’s self to provide sexual services in exchange of payment. Prostitution is known to be “the world’s oldest profession”. According to the New American Bible, prostitutes existed even in Jesus’ time. In fact, Mary Magdalene and Rahab were prostitutes from the Old Testament. Aside from that, ancient sources from Herodotus say that the Sumerians used to practice “sacred prostitution”. During the Middle Ages, prostitution was tolerated even by the Roman Catholic Church with hopes that it would help reduce crime rates. (McCall, 1979) There is no doubt that prostitution is still an issue today. It happens globally, and has even been made legal in some countries. Since people continue to support it, sex tourism emerged in the 20th century. Why should prostitution not be tolerated nor legalized in the Philippines?…

The Philippines is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with an estimated 103,775,002 number of inhabitants as of 2012. Overpopulation in the Philippines can be caused by an increase in birth rates and with it a decline in death rates because of advances in medicine, and it can also be cause by the lack of education among people. What makes the population explosion a problem? This explosion of growth alerts politicians and economists because of the reason that human beings need resources in order to survive. Since there are limited resources, there would come a point where in there would be no more resources to sustain life. The government is concerned about the huge number of inhabitants in the country, which can cause widespread food shortages and outbreak of diseases thus suggesting the use of contraceptives for family planning. The Church says that the problem is not overpopulation but there is a…
