The current affairs today have shown how America is evolving into an oligarchy. Our elective officials no longer represent the people. There has been an ongoing take over by the corporation and the wealthy. We have seen how many politicians cater to those who funded their campaigns by donors in hope that the politician will legislate in their favor. These corporations have people that go out to mediate their agenda and these are called lobbyist. Which many have said could be classified as a form of legal bribery. So what is a lobbyist? A lobbyist is a representative of a corporation that goes to congress to pass legislation in favor of a particular company. These lobbyists range from all different sectors of business from the pharmaceutical to the tobacco industry. The media was created to inform the public of the current issues of the day. This was a brilliant idea to enlighten the people. However, these media outlets can be a good source of information but can be a resource for misinformed information. This information can be used to promote a certain agenda and this is called propaganda. There was an example in the 1950’s called the “red scare” this was used to put fear in those that communism was going to come to America and take away the people's freedoms. This propaganda was propagated by the media through television to created a paranoia around communism. This was just one way how the media was used to promoted a false information. For years the media have been used to the detriment of blacks along with the American justice system. How? The media can set the narrative and make things appear different from reality. This was done by its portrayal of black people as a bunch of criminals while taking the focus off other
