CHAPTER ONE
1. INTRODUCTION
Munami community educational self help group (SHG) is a grass root organization that was registered in December 2007 as a community based organization (CBO) and begun its operation in January 2008. The aim with our organization is to empower the community particularly the vulnerable groups through educational programmes, social training and learning. The organization operates within Munami village, Matungu division, Mumias district within Kakamega county of Kenya. The organization has two programmes: offering educational Support for the orphans and Human Rights Campaign Project particularly for child right advocacy, currently organization in partnership with other agencies is sponsoring 43 orphan children i.e 30 in primary school and 13 in secondary school. The organization also networks with ministry of education gender, sports and social services and different youth groups located within Kakamega County. These groups include: Jamri, Juhudi, Bangok Hall, Tuungane, Acquity, St.Peters and Church of Christ in Africa (CCA).These groups come together to work towards a common course which is to empower the community through education.
