Project Classroom Makeover Chapter Summary
When reading this section, learned that the section was from chapter 3 of Now You See It: How Technology and Brain Science Will Transform Schools and Business for the 21st Century by Cathy Davidson. On chapter 3, “Project Classroom Makeover”, the main issue was on technology in the classroom. Luckily, I had the chance to read this book in high school once, see when I read this, Duke University was chosen to participate in “Apple Digital Campus”, where each school was chosen to pick a product from apple to be used across campus. So some educators, this was looked at with total bust because they would become in a way more distracted. I have not thought about what type of teacher I would like to be, but I have thought about wanting to be a counselor for high school students before. I feel like being a counselor for high school student is the most important time for these teengers, its were they need the most advise and help. Nonetheless, when I read this book, I could really feel the intellectual mindset Cathy Davidson had, she really knows what she is talking about, and she tries to make sure you understand her and she explains really well what she is trying to say. When Davidson talked about the students who learned different ways to use the iPod for their classes, she talked a bit about the medical students, and music students, and on other students and their various techniques used when studying with their iPods. When Davidson talked about Ichabod Crane’s effects on modern day classrooms, she explains that a lot of the classrooms methods were made for the industrial workers, and feels that they need to change because it needs to fit the style of today’s digital age student. I enjoyed the story she gave about the art student who didn’t recognize talent she had because of her inability to test well. I truly feel that all students have a strength and ability in something, and no matter what it could be or is, it should be revealed and out. I believe there isn’t room for all of us to be engineers,

    It shows how the teachers interact with students, and how students react with the teachers. In that meager setting at Oakcity High School with Mr. Bartlett, he doesn’t cater to students needs. He does things in a strict basic formatted setting because “...on any job they get outside of school, there’s going to be a certain formats they must follow to be successful on the job.     She supports her colleagues with integrating technology in their classrooms. Mary Hertz teaches high school in Philadelphia, where students have a school issued device to she saw that her students are getting a hard time to focus in making their homework. She always hears that her students complain that her assignments are taking too long to be finished, which she believed that distraction made a huge role in their resentment.
