Chapter 1: Introduction
In the last 20 or 30 years citizens of Curacao often are claiming about the poor results that the soccer national team is giving in the international competitions. Citizens often criticize that soccer player performance are poor, citizens claim that players now are not playing with their heart anymore and that the players only respond when they are paid to perform. Citizens forget that other countries have invested more money in their national team, such as Venezuela who is now growing with big steps in every competition they perform, and our national soccer team has beaten the Venezuelan soccer team in the past, and now our team is the one beaten instead. This is because Venezuela has invested a lot of money in their soccer players, so their soccer players can have the same conditions as the other top teams in the area. Looking at this example, our national team can also be one of the best in the area, but there must be a lot of investment and also create a professional soccer league, where players can receive a decent pay to live out of their
