Professional Reflection Essay
Professional learning needs were identified by my Course Learning Team at the end of the 2015-16 school year for several reasons. Because our district was moving to a one-to-one computing learning environment in 2018-2019, we wanted to acclimate students to using Google Suites to complete and submit work as well as learning tools and teaching strategies that would increase student comprehension and learning experiences using these devices. We also looked at PLAN score data to look at current students’ strengths and areas in which they may need additional support. On average, we noted that students had higher scores in reading than English, which meant, we wanted to increase the frequency with which students wrote, practice writing for a variety …show more content…
Since I had experience in this area, my Course Learning Team asked me to delve further into Google Suites and share my findings. My school district has selected two teachers from each building, one being me, to participate in a Staff Development Committee related to technology, which has also allowed me to attend conferences and gain training. I have taught eight professional development sessions related to Google Suites, webtools, and strategies for providing feedback to students. According to survey data conducted after each session, teachers strongly agree that they will utilize what was presented during this professional development session with my classes (4.83 out of 5-star rating) and also believe that the information presented will improve student learning (also 4.83 out of 5-star rating). Because my students use devices daily, I have sought best practices for teachers using technology to access course material, submit work, and increase student knowledge. In my findings, I have discovered NoRedInk (a grammar website), Noodle Tools, Purdue Owl, Cite This for Me, and Co-Writer to help improve students’ grammar and writing skills and shared those with my Course Learning Team. Increasing my knowledge and teaching other teachers to use these tools has positively impacted PLAN and grade point average data. The average PLAN score has risen 1.53 points among all Sophomores since 2014, and the

As part of my Business Innovation Development Project Unit, I had the opportunity to put myself into group with my friends or people I believed I could work well with. In the first stages of our group we all tried to get to know each other more through analysing personality and learning types’ test that we previously undertook. I realise we were going through the normal stages of the team formation in particular forming and norming (Tuckman, 1965). In my assignment group we had all Belbin team roles which helped us perform well throughout our project and also helped us to identify other team members’ behavioural strengths and weaknesses. During the initial stages of the group getting together I believed it was important that we all had a clear objective and somewhat of a pathway of what we wanted to achieve and that everyone shared duties within the group. My group members had roles such as researching the market to see if there is a demand for Youni which was our product for university students, they also dealt with the financial side of our product and making analysis between our product and our competitor’s product.…

In the workplace, dealing with issues immediately as they arise can alleviate a worse situation from occurring. Hoping that issues will work themselves out if enough time’s permitted may work for certain situations, but others can continue to get worse especially when several individuals get involved. For one to truly become ‘The Chief’, a strong foundation of values and morals is essential. This must be evident both on and off duty. The Chief Petty Officer Academy (CPOA) provided me with a clear vision of leadership, understanding that we cannot achieve success without enduring failure. At the CPOA, there were several defining moments where this was never more clear. The classes that had the most profound effect on me were the Intermediate Ropes Course, Goals and Values, and the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) 360 Survey results review.…

Professionalism can mean many different things to many different people. For the business man, professionalism might mean wearing a fancy suit while traveling to their high paying job. To a doctor, it might mean performing a successful surgery. The point is that there is no one correct way to define professionalism. Depending on your profession, personality, or your surroundings, many people will come up with very different meanings. I have my own perception of “professionalism,” and I hope I can let this perception help me in the workplace and my entire future to come.…

When commencing ethical considerations in my action research, I started by reading pages 106 through 112 in the Mertler textbook. Mertler (2014) asserted as with other aspects of the job of being a professional educator ethical treatment of students and colleagues as well as their respective data must be a crucial component of designing your research study. Furthermore, you are required to get consent from your students and their parents/guardians intended for the data that you assemble. Considering this, in my particular action research, absolute anonymity will be maintained due to the fact that no names will ever be exploited. Consent forms will need to be signed by the parent/guardian and student for permission to take a survey on reading habits. Above all, at no instance…

anagerial communication is different from other kinds of communication. Why? Because in a business or management setting, the most brilliant message in the world will do you no good unless you achieve your desired outcome. Therefore, instead of thinking of communication as a straight line from a sender to a receiver, visualize communication as a circle, as shown below, with your success based on achieving your desired response. To get that desired audience response, you need to think strategically about your communication—before you start to write or speak. Strategic communication is based on five interactive variables: (1) communicator (the writer or speaker) strategy, (2) audience strategy, (3) message strategy, (4) channel choice strategy, and (5) culture strategy. These variables may affect one another; for example, your audience analysis affects your communicator style, your channel choice may affect your message, and the culture may affect your channel choice.…
