Intercultural communication is inevitable in modern business world, and a successful merchant should have professional communication skill and knowledge to solve problem in oral communication. This essay will discuss how to exactly confirm communication situation, and then utilizing professional skills to deal with the issues of cultural difference and information overload in Fran’s presentation.

Cultural difference and information overload can be common problems in the presentation. The first mistake is she only trial the presentation to her domestic colleague, but she did not take account into the cultural difference whereas her audiences are international colleagues. This is because “Intercultural communication often relates to cultural groups at the level of nations and national languages” (Bowe and Martin 2007, 4). According to “Bowe and Martin (2007, 1) to an understanding of intercultural communication is crucially related to an understanding of the ways in which the spoken word may be interpreted differentially”. That is, misunderstanding or incomprehension will be caused by such as people have different culture background and language barrier. The other problem of Fran is information overload. De janasz, wood and Gottschalk (2006, 3) believe oral communication activities tend to cause participants sense difficult to accept a large amount of information from speaker. Because of information overload may arouse unfocused and boring, thus audience may did not want to participate any of activities she had planed. As a result, to effectively solve these problems in the presentation is the way to achieve successful oral communication.
.

There are many solutions of cultural difference and information overload. For example, before presentation she not only needs to practice, but also have to clearly know which condition she will be. Then, in order to manage intercultural interaction effectively, speakers need to be aware of the inherent norms of their own speech practices, the methods in which regulations change depending on situational factors and the methods in which speakers have other language backgrounds may have different expectations of language usage and behavior (Bowe and Martin 2007,1-2). For information overload, the quantity of information should be rationally controlled. In oral communication when met a large amount of complex information must be delivered, the major way is concentrate on improving the quality of information (De Janasz, wood and Gottschalk 2006, 4). So, by using these methods Fran may effectively solve these major problems in her presentation, and her international colleagues may be willing to give her some content responses.

This essay discuss about two main issues cultural difference and information overload in oral communication, and it provides some great methods to resolve them. First of all, the problem of Fran was that she did not completely realize culture barrier between she and her international collogues. Secondly, her information may be overmuch and the important information is not screen out during arrangement. Finally, if Fran can fully understand the problem, she will successfully overcome these problems, after that her oral communication skill will be improved, and she also will present a brilliant presentation to her international collogues in the future.

In our world of expanding technology and shrinking geography, people of different cultures have increasing frequency of contact and need for effective communication on a daily basis. Whether through travel, immigration, or international business, having the ability to communicate across many different cultures is an advantage in and of itself. Speaking a different language is an obvious obstacle to intercultural communication, but a greater and more difficult hurdle is to “speak” a different culture. To understand and comprehend and even apply these tiniest of differences is to truly communicate across cultures. Even though we may learn the words, the grammar, and the recognizable pronunciation of a language, we may still not know how to navigate around the greater obstacles to communication that are presented by cultural difference. What is culture?…

One of the difficult tasks for me was to give the intercultural presentation in front of my colleagues and instructor. According to Jarvis & Algozzine (2006, as cited in Mustafa, 2008) “Presenting a topic is more than standing in front of a group and telling them what you know”. Before conducting my presentation, there were some assumptions in my mind and I was preoccupied with some thoughts like will I be able to deliver content to my colleagues effectively and what if I will not be able to answer their questions? Delivering presentation is a continuous and developmental process, therefore presentation styles are not something one gets and learns at one time. It’s a thing which one can acquire and improve through their daily experiences (Bubb, 2003 as cited in Mustafa, 2008). Hence, by understanding this phenomenon I made up my mind and tried to resolve my anxiety level by realizing that one cannot be perfect in all the things as we are humans, thus we cannot know each and everything while entertaining anyone’s questions but through honest attitude, participation and taking initiatives, we can always improve our skills. Hence, on the day of my presentation, I started my session with a great confidence and I was competent enough to implement good teaching techniques by using appropriate body posture and gestures. Although anxieties…

Communication brings about unity and purpose, interests and efforts in an organization. There are many different aspects of professional communication that are discussed in this report. When I think of the word communication, words like information, emotions, facts, ideas, opinions, speech, writing, symbols, signs and thoughts are synonymous. My understanding of communication is that it is a means of helping people or groups to understand a certain concept or other information for example memorandums, letters, team briefs, emails, end of day meetings, warnings one on one discussions and many more. All of these eliminate the river of misunderstanding.…

Culture strongly influences a person's communication pattern and behaviour (Wood 2004, p. 210). Organisations are increasingly required to deal with suppliers, customers and staff from various cultural backgrounds. Therefore, Cross-cultural communication plays an important role in the workplace. The attention to contextual information varies greatly depending on culture. Hight-context cultures tend to supply very little information within messages but expect participants complete those using the context. Inversely, low-context cultures, use a more direct, brusque and explicit way of communicating (Adair, Buchan & Dong Liu 2009, p. 4). In general, it is the responsibility of the communicator to adapt to the host culture. However, in practice, it is not always feasible. When communicating in a foreign language, the user's fluency will limit his message understanding and delivery. The ability to adapt to one's cultural communication style is therefore crucial (Hsieh, 2011, p. 286). For the Hospitality specialists, it has even more significance as they are required to deal not only with customers but also co-workers from various cultural backgrounds. As Tanova & Nadiri (2010, p. 194) state, with the amount of intercultural dealings increasing, one has to realise the importance of context and consequently utilise appropriate communication…
