Professional Athletes Overpaid
Although some individuals and fans believe that professional athletes are paid far too much, it is not a fair accusation made against these highly thought of individuals. Some complaints are about how much athletes are paid, yet they are still willing to pay outrageous prices to attend these major sporting events. Why is that? “And while so many are under the impression that this paycheck has one too many zeros in it, I believe that these individuals are dedicating themselves so fully to their occupation, purely for our entertainment I might add, should not be villainized for the amount of their reimbursement.” (Are Professional Athletes Overpaid? 1). “90% of professional athletes are being paid exactly what they deserve. The professional sports industry is a multi-billion dollar a year industry.” (Stein 1). This is meaning that if you are really good you will be paid more, because you are bringing in more money and therefore more people come to watch the carnage. As said above professional athletes are only paid what they deserve. Steph Curry a well known basketball player is making more than the players that sit the bench on the same team. This happens in the normal workforce as well. Someone that is working a blue collared job is not going to be making the same as a person who is working a white collared job. This concept happens everywhere, not just in professional sports. Another common concept that is shared is the value that these job are worth and how much pressure is on these major athletes. The more pressure that is on you the more you are generally going to make. This is true if you look at surgeons pay, powerline workers that have to hang out of a plane while fixing something in the air, and professional athletes. “The Masters is unlike any other major sporting event in the world since the management at Augusta National is against maxing out the almighty dollar in the name of tradition. That means they limit the number of corporate partners, limit the amount of commercials (four per hour) that run on the CBS broadcast of the event, and they have shown no interest in making any sort of real market value off their tickets.” (Rovell 1). The Masters is an event that is for people who are infatuated with golf and can not live without it. Some might say it is boring, but for some who enjoy watching Tiger Woods or major golf pros like that, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
