Procrastinators vs. Non-Procrastinators
Procrastinators vs. Non-Procrastinators Procrastination is a part of everyday life to some people, and not so much for others.
Procrastinations have been defined as the habit of putting task off until later. It is concerned by many a “bad habit.” I, myself have formed this so called bad habit of putting task off until later, which of course leaves me rushing to complete a task. Although procrastinators and non- procrastinators do not have many similarities, they do in fact have many differences. Time management is one of the biggest problems faced by procrastinators.
Procrastinators wait until the last minute to start on an assignment or task whether it be school or work. They also tend to have trouble with being on time, because they do not allow enough time for things such as: traffic jams, wrecks, or car trouble. Non-procrastinators on the other hand, use schedules and daily planners to highlight assignment due dates and appointment times in order to be on time. They also plan ahead to avoid any problems that would prevent them from being on time. I’m sure like myself most of us procrastinators spend plenty of time doing things we shouldn’t, just wasting our time. One time waster I find myself doing a lot of is facebooking. Whereas, non-procrastinators may only partake in facebooking after they have completed their assignments or work. Procrastinators lack motivation to get things done. Unless of course the task is exciting or interesting for instance taking out the trash is neither interesting nor exciting. So therefore we put it off until later, when it is absolutely necessary on the account of it over flowing. After putting it off I find that it is more trouble, than if I would’ve went ahead and did it. Non-procrastinators realize that whether you put it off or not it still has to be done. So they would rather go ahead and get it over with. Many procrastinators are haunted by distractions, meaning they’re easily distracted by things like other people, task, TV, and just the plain ole wondering mind. I’m the prime example of someone that would be distracted easily, I find it hard to focus when I’m around other people. This is one reason why I don’t take advantage of doing homework during class. I usually find myself looking around the room or thinking about other things that do not pertain to what I’m doing at the time. However, non-procrastinators do not seem to be distracted by other things easily. They set mind their minds out to do something they do it and let nothing interfere. Anxiety and stress are the effects of procrastination. Procrastinators feel these when they have to rush to complete a task or assignment. Because they do not allow themselves enough time and usually get little rest when a major assignment or task is coming up. I tend to feel stress and anxiety when I procrastinate and then try to rush to finish it. I sometimes bite my nails, have mood swings or yell at others who are disturbing me. Whereas non-procrastinators do not feel these effects, because they do not put off assignments or task to the last minute. They allow themselves enough time to complete them. There are a few steps you can take to avoid procrastinating, if you find yourself slipping into that form of “bad habit”. First, you have to find the motivation, whether it is your will to complete the assignment or task on time and make a better grade, or having the privilege of not having to rush at the last minute to get something completed. For example completing the rough draft to a long essay, before or on the due date. This way you have enough time for revisions so that you can allow your teacher to review it before you write your final draft. Finding the right time to study or do your work is a must to help prevent from any distractions. Goals and deadlines concerning your final and other necessary materials should be made to allow yourself time to revise, edit, and turn in on the due date. Taking these steps to become a non- procrastinator could be very helpful in relieving anxiety, stress and also to better your performance in your work.

Berkman, a Psychologist wrote about various problems we procrastinate. One that caught my attention was that it’s a choice whether to complete an assignment, do something fun or simply nothing. He quotes “When the value of something else outweighs the value of working now.” More clearly students don’t see the value of their homework any better than going out to a party and having fun so they leave homework undone and so something more pleasurable.…

Most of the time procrastination isn’t always a bad thing. It could be good if you use your time wisely and think of good ideas. But on the other hand, it could be bad because, if you just sit around and do absolutely nothing. If you manage your time carefully, you would get done a lot faster and easier. As said in sentence 8, “Dr. Perry generously acknowledges that he has stood on the shoulders of iants, in particular Robert Benchley , the Algonquin Round Table Member. In 1930, Benchley revealed how he mustered the willpower to pore through scientific magazines and build a bookshelf when an article was due.”…
