Probation Officer Narrative Report
I have returned home to finish out my probation. I am required to check in with my probation officer, Mr. Edwards, everyday so he can drug test me and keep tabs on my now extremely boring life. The other day I was down town when I ran into Tina. She ran up and hugged me, I tensed up and didn’t hug her back because I was extremely uncomfortable and still wasn’t too fond of her. She told me she was very happy to see I was free of that hell hole and apologized for helping Kyle put me there. Supposedly the whole thing was his idea, what a jerk! She asked me if I have time to eat lunch with her, a no was simmering on my lips when she volunteered to pay so I agreed. Luckily, there was a pizza spot on the corner so we just cruised into there. We ordered …show more content…
She put an advertisement out on him online, warning other women not to sleep with him unprotected and if they do to tell the police. She had an abortion because she refused to bring a child into this world that already had a target on his back but went to the abortion queen instead of the abortion clinic and she removed her uterus so she cannot be pregnant again and now, she was the only one dealing with the fact she had HIV. Our pizza arrived, unfortunately, piping hot so now I must wait for it to cool before devouring it. I used my plate to fan the pizza to speed up the cooling process. She was now sobbing and asking God why did it have to be her to go through such a trauma in only a matter of months. She claimed she was so happy before meeting Kyle. The pizza is finally cool and I shove four slices back to back down my throat and gulp down my last bit of lemonade. She watches me wondering what I’m doing. I look her square in the eyes and tell her what she is going through it called karma then thanked her for the pizza, gather my things and left. Well, mom I must go. A huge designer chose me to model his clothes in a New York fashion week

We talked a lot about anything and everything; nothing really stands out here other then me saying, “I think it’s cool that you have a really happy marriage.” I genuinely thought that at the time, and well I still think it’s an okay marriage, but I didn’t realize the problems at the time. So at the end of the working day we had gone back to my Auntie’s house, I would have gone back to my Grandma’s, but I wanted to see my cousin Jordan first. When we got there Aunt Jackie had decided to drink a beer and show Jordan her “vampire” bite which she had gotten from a dog. Jordan and I decided to go talk for a little bit while Aunt Jackie and Uncle Roger relaxed. The drama didn’t start until evening came…

The Collier County Probation Department received two negative media remarks in the past month. The media stated that the probation agency was soft on crime. The chief of probation decided to react to the situation by implementing stricter and more detailed presentence investigation reports. However, the chief of probation used personal leave and left Joan Casey the supervisor in charge of the department. Casey is in charge of responding to any inquiries presented by the media and is under pressure by the media and the chief of probation to make the right decision that will satisfy the public, media, and the chief of probation. The current case is pending final judgment and is about a 23-year-old man who murdered his stepfather and was a victim for many year of physical and incest abuse. However, other than the stepfather the man is not considered a risk to the public. The probation department is proposing intermediate sanction to the judge for the 23-year-old man. A well-known television anchor contacted Casey by phone to discuss the sentencing prior to the final judgment. In this particular situation Casey should avoid the reporter and not provided information when a judge has not made decision. Another reason Casey should avoid speaking to the anchor is because the news potentially could have a public reaction, thus making her agency a target for the media. Also there is no way that Casey could know if the anchor may report a negative remark and not support her departments sentencing proposal.…

At the tender age of eighteen, I began my career as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Corrections at the Ellis I Unit in Huntsville, Texas, a town with population of only about 30,000 people, but with seven prisons and more than 13,000 inmates. I attended a lengthy and thorough pre-service training academy that was conducted for eight hours every day for two weeks. All trainees were required to live in dormitories together as a group so we could sleep, eat, breathe, and drink corrections. There were about fifty trainees going through the academy at the same time. We were an interesting bunch with about half of the group being young guys like me looking for their first real job and the other half being forty-something military or law enforcement retirees wanting to pursue a new career. There were no women in my academy class. Women at the time could be found in support positions that were primarily clerical, but would not play a direct contact role in male corrections in Texas until 1984 (US Department of Justice, 1991).…

An Overview of the Parole System and its Problems Overcrowding in both state and federal prisons has been a major problem facing the corrections system. There have been many ways to try and stop the overcrowding, but it is still a problem to this day. Parole is just one strategy that has helped with this problem. The first actual type of parole was introduced by Alexander Maconochie in 1840. It was a primitive system and the first actual system of parole was introduced in 1846 by Sir Walter Crofton. Crofton had the first system in which parolees would be put back in prison if their parole conditions were violated. Also, Crofton introduced supervision by police officials. These officials proved to be the first actual parole officers. It was not until 1870 that parole was first introduced to the United States. Parole is defined as the, ?release of an offender from a penal or correctional institution, after he has served a portion of his sentence, under the continued custody of the state and under conditions that permit his reincarceration in the event of misbehavior? (p.437 Allen et al). Parole seems like a reasonable and effective way to get prisoners back on the streets, rehabilitated and helping out the community, but parole still faces many challenges and problems. More and more inmates are being let out on parole, but at the same time, parole boards are losing funding. This puts a strain on parole officers and leaves many parolees unsupervised. It is problems like this that lead to parolees ending up back in prison. ?Based on the offense that brought parolees back to prison, these 156,000 offenders committed at least 6,800 murders, 5,500 rapes, 8,800 assaults, and 22,500 robberies, while under supervision in the community an average of 13 months? (p.1 Cohen). These are eye-opening numbers. If parolees end up back in prison, then the system is not working. With such staggering numbers, how is the community protected? How can the system insure that the parolees…

Probation and/or parole officers are under major stress in their jobs because they are responsible for other people’s lives and safety. These officers are also responsible for heavy caseloads which in turns causes not enough time to thoroughly complete these caseloads and results in officers stressed that they are unable to effectively do their jobs. Probation and parole officers are placed in many traumatic situations that can lead to burnout. Another major stressor for these officers is the uncertainty of their roles in their cases. Role conflict is the difficulty for officers to enforce rules and laws; and then to provide support and reintegration. This stressor is major because officers have to differentiate between their responsibilities in the case and the ability to help offenders who have broken the law.…

My mom was 14 when she had me, and my dad left to California. My mom went of to Job Corps, so she really wasn’t in the picture. My dad didn’t come into my life until I was 14, so I lived with my grandparents and their kids. My uncles and aunt caused plenty of trouble for my grandparents. They were in gangs, doing drugs, skipping school, and sneaking out. Cops were over often. People tried to fight my uncles all of the time, and our house got shot at. Eventually, they ended up getting a probation officer. It helped them to a certain point, but they would always fall back down. It was too late for the officer to change them because they were already adults. They had made their choices already. This is why I want to become a probation officer…

    Parole Officer Reflection

Within the three weeks I had to complete my volunteer work, I was able to clean excessively. More importantly, the opportunity to redo the check in area was enormous. There was clear evidence that a parole officer had been in charge of this room prior. It gave off an awful vibe, and nothing that was hanging up would benefit a parolee. The posters and warning signs that were hanging up when I was on parole were still there, and still made me feel uneasy. I took down the posters about mandatory sentences for gun violations, and all of the signs that possibly could have been hung up in a “tough love” sort of fashion. Where those posters hung, reminding parolees what would happen if they failed, I replaced with encouraging paintings, and phrases from one parolee to another. There is now a job board where the parole officers or felon friendly companies can post…
