Principles of Management
Abstract
This research paper is about Maureen Chiquet, CEO of Chanel, Inc., specifically relating to the reasons I admire her for being such an excellent manager. She really utilizes the 4 functions of management effectively which leads the company she works for now, and the companies she has also worked for in the past, to great success. She is motivation to both the employees of Chanel and also women in general who are in the business world. She has been a well-respected, hard-working, and inspirational woman of business since she started her career in the fashion and retail industry in 1985.Maureen Chiquet, CEO of Chanel, Inc.
Maureen Chiquet is the CEO of Chanel, Inc. and is who I chose to be the focus of my final paper. She was once just a young girl dreaming about the beautiful art, character and panache of the French culture; but this was only the beginning of a long and continuing love affair with France. As a young adult she felt she had to move to France, and once she did she found an internship at L’Oreal in Paris. This was the start of her career. She moved from L’Oreal to GAP, and then to Old Navy which she and her team grew to a $5 billion brand. She joined Chanel in 2003 and became CEO in October 2004. To understand why Maureen Chiquet is considered an exceptional business manager, one must know her past which is what helped her reach this accomplishment. She has always taken risks in her life and career while continuously following her heart. She encourages her staff by setting up work groups that have the ability to contribute their ideas with new product concepts and campaigns. I believe that I can learn a lot from the work ethic and drive she has portrayed throughout her life so far, and also in the way she runs Chanel, Inc. She creates modernity and freshness while still maintaining the company’s familiar traditional image.
