Primitive/ Civilized
Why did some “civilized” societies begin calling other societies “primitive”? What were the differences that led to ethnocentrism? Civilized means that you stay in one place and hunt and gather plants there all the time. Primitive means that you move around a lot and you follow where the animals go. These differences in how these two societies lived led to ethnocentrism because one society thought the way that they did things was better. The civilized society probably thought there society was better because it had things like technology, more buildings, and it was easier to develop their skills. Primitive societies would have probably thought their own society was better because they wouldn’t have ran out of food, and they were always moving and stayed fit, and they also learned more things on many of their journeys. It is also hard for primitive societies to develop things like technology, religion, and the way they do things because they are moving around so much and it makes it hard to develop those types of things. Also I think it would be harder to teach their children things if they are moving around, they would have to learn from trial and error. But also if you lived back in the older days and you were a civilized society it would have probably been harder because you may run out of animals to hunt or other things, and you wouldn’t have had shipped goods coming in and out of your society. If I were to choose a society I would most likely choose civilized because you are staying in one place and developing your skills and how you do things, and it would most likely be easier too. If I were to have been alive in the olden days I would have almost rather live in a primitive society because you wouldn’t have run out of food because you would have been moving to where the food was all the time. I think that these differences easily led to ethnocentrism because both societies had very different ways of doing things.
