The heightened demands on school administrators today require them to work collaboratively with teachers. Teachers cultivate the school culture and typically experience greater longevity in schools than their administrators, which gives them an ideal vantage point from which they may conceive of and initiate important changes at all levels to promote school improvement (Danielson, 2006). The Rice University Mathematics Leadership Institute (RUMLI) was an attempt to develop the great potential of teacher leaders to help advance systemic changes in their schools and districts. The primary purpose of RUMLI was to confront an inability to meet a large, persistent, and growing demand for guidance in mathematics on many high school campuses.…

About my background, I graduated from XXXX in 2011, majored in Mathematics and Economics. Last year when I was finding teaching jobs, I was frequently asked the same question – Why do you choose this program rather than a traditional Mathematics degree program? My answer is rather simple – I choose this program because I want to know how Mathematics can be applied in other disciplines, such as social science like Economics. During my three years of university study, I was amazed by the importance of Mathematics in social science. Economics models, social statistical research, national accounting, developmental analysis are all related to different streams of Mathematics. They are so beautiful and elegant, and often a mathematical equation can explain our world better than thousands of words.…

Besides the earth’s oceans, glacier ice is the largest source of water on earth. A glacier is a massive stream or sheet of ice that moves underneath itself under the influence of gravity. Some glaciers travel down mountains or valleys, while others spread across a large expanse of land. Heavily glaciated regions such as Greenland and Antarctica are called continental glaciers. These two ice sheets encompass more than 95 percent of the earth’s glacial ice. The Greenland ice sheet is almost 10,000 feet thick in some areas, and the weight of this glacier is so heavy that much of the region has been depressed below sea level. Smaller glaciers that occur at higher elevations are called alpine or valley glaciers. Another way of classifying glaciers is in terms of their internal temperature. In temperate glaciers, the ice within the glaciers is near its melting point. Polar glaciers, in contrast, always maintain temperatures far below melting.…

We have different reasons why we hate or like math. As of these days, 70% of the students hate math and the remaining 30% is the one who likes math. Students say they hate math for some reasons, firstly simply because they don’t understand it and they just don’t like numbers. It’s like when they see numbers their life is starting to tear down. Secondly is they are afraid to take risk on answering the problem. They are thinking that it might not be the correct answer for the problem, that’s why they were lack in self confidence to answer the existing problems. Thirdly, students hate math because of how the teachers discuss the topics and how the teachers give exams. When the discussion is going on, it is very easy for the students to understand the lessons but when it comes to examinations the teacher gives very different set of numbers that the students might not know how to solve it. That’s why the students always got low grades when it comes to exams. In addition with that students hate math because their teachers give them a lot of things to do, giving problem after problem, ditto sheets, text books, and senseless math problems.…

Quality has permeated higher education in various guises. Investigates the potential for improving quality in the consumer studies teaching process, through group work, presentation skills and peer/self assessment techniques, culminating in a final questionnaire and group discussion. Students accepted groupwork, while they were less enthusiastic about peer assessment. They consistently overrated and although appearing to recognize good and bad presentations, this was reflected more in their qualitative feedback, rather than in the final marks awarded, perhaps reinforcing the belief that what the technique lacks in terms of precision, it compensates for in learning quality. Final-year students developed their discriminatory abilities but were sceptical of the benefits, while year-two students, although willing, actually marked more generously. Ultimately, there is a need to continue to involve students and to see evaluation in a positive,…

As a human, we have more of an impact on this present generation than many of us realize. We have evolved over time and have changed a great deal. In the recent decades, our demands on the resources that our economy has to offer have become overwhelming. Our population has grown exponentially, but its level doesn’t necessarily fulfill what we should give the environment in return.Nature is life. It has always given our essential needs without expecting anything in return. It impliedly takes its responsibility as a benefactor and provides what we ask for. We all know how important the nature is, but do we really care? Our chances of having a better community slowly fade. For these reasons, it is our job to advocate for a better environment. Because not all the time, our natural resources could give our demands, so it is necessary to conserve them or just simply, be a disciplined steward of God’s creation. On the other hand, it must be our duty then to give something back – the deepest gratitude that everyone may contribute through protecting our Mother Earth. Performing any kind of activity other than this is not a complicated thing; we just need to have willingness and cooperation in our work. So what are we waiting for? Let’s not blame each other’s part, for we are individually liable for one’s negligence and irresponsibility. Well, it’s not yet too late for us to be optimistic. Let’s not act later, tomorrow, or on the other day. Today is the best time to make change. Good luck beautiful creatures of God!…
