MODULE CONTENT

Students who complete this module should be able to identify and discuss psychological theories which might explain the following topics: * Psychological approaches to loss and attachment theory
* Introduction to behavioural theory and psychoanalytical theory
* Introduction to teaching and learning theory
* Motivational factors in healthcare eg health beliefs
* Coping mechanisms
* Attitude, change and prejudice
* Overview of life course development

All contents will be related to nursing and social care practice throughout and supported by the use of learning materials via study-net.

In addition, health and social care issues in relation to people with learning disabilities and mental health problems, introduced in the preceding semester will be further developed.
The module is delivered on Fridays between 12.00 –16.00. The hours between 09.00 and 11.00 are to be used as private study time, addressing issues relating to this module.
The whole cohort is divided into four subgroups for teaching and support purposes. Each subgroup is assigned two lecturers who will be responsible for teaching, tutorial support and marking of assignments. All students are required to remain in their allocated group throughout the delivery of the module. Outside of the classroom, Study-net will be the main mode of communication. Therefore, you are advised to frequent the module site regularly. Information will be uploaded on study-net as follows: * News items under module news * Module guide and timetable under module
