Pressure and the Gas Laws
A barometer is a widely used weather instrument that measures atmospheric pressure (also known as air pressure or barometric pressure) - the weight of the air in the atmosphere

A barometer is an instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure. It can measure the pressure exerted by the atmosphere by using water, air, or mercury. From the variation of air pressure, one can forecast short-term changes in the weather.

There are two main types of barometers –
Mercury Barometers newer digital friendly Aneroid Barometer.
The Fortin Barometer

The Aneroid Barometer

It is a type of barometer that does not make use of a liquid. It is commonly used as an altimeter in aircrafts (since the pressure decreases as the height increases) and also for weather forecasts.
Generally, a low pressure or a sudden fall in pressure indicates unsettled weather while a high pressure or a rising pressure is associated with fine weather.
As the atmospheric pressure changes, the top of the metal box moves up and down. Levers magnify this movement and move a pointer over a circular dial.

Manometer Definition
A manometer measures the difference in air or liquid pressure by comparing it to an outside source, usually a sample of Earth's atmosphere.
There are several types of manometers piezometer tube, which is a single tube and a base that holds the liquid. U-shaped
. Manometers are used in atmospheric surveys, weather studies, gas analyses and research of the atmospheres of other planets. They are usually made of glass or plastic, and while most are scored for measurement, some can measure changes digitally. The single-tube manometer measures only the pressure of a liquid, since there is no alternate place to compare gases. A U-shaped manometer essentially pits two different gas pressures against one another, and measures the strength of the captured gas. The free-flowing gas is usually air at the current atmospheric level.

Part I of this experiment was specifically designed to validate Boyle’s Law, through the use of a homemade barometer. The open-end tube of the barometer, when moved to different heights above or below its equilibrium, visually achieves the application of various pressures (P) in which the volume (V) corresponding to it, can be measured. If pressure (P) times the corresponding volume (V) is a constant within the experimental error, it validates Boyle’s Law as the “volume of a sample of gas at a given temperature varies inversely with the applied pressure”.…

The pitot-static system of instruments uses the principle of air pressure gradient. It works by measuring pressures or pressure differences and using these values to assess the speed and altitude. These pressures can be measured either from the static port (static pressure) or the pitot tube (pitot pressure). The static pressure is used in all measurements, while the pitot pressure is only used to determine airspeed.…
