A model is a method for engaging theory-driven research in an attempt to explain how some specific characteristic of life works. Therefore, models of the Presidency attempt to explain the internal politics of the executive branch by explaining how the behavioral dynamics of actors within the White House shape presidential performance. James David Barber had four different classifications of character, which are active-positive, passive-positive, active-negative, and passive-negative. Barber’s classifications are considered the models of the Presidency.…
The letter I open from ICC one afternoon, I did not expect it to be a scholarship. I was very excited and relieved when I read the letter. The Dana Memorial Scholarship was my third scholarship along with the Act Achievement Incentive Scholarship and Leadership Scholarship. I had a great time at the dinner meeting, and I really enjoyed spending time with my donor or representative. I see this…
The Prairie Meadows scholarship will help me pursue a career in engineering at Iowa State University. It will help me go to community college first to get my basic courses out of the way before I go to a four year school. The money will help me pay for books. I know a lot of students struggle with money and paying for books. The scholarship would also help me out if I don’t get an…
The government has been changing the presidential nomination in order to fit the citizens. According to Wattenberg, these changes are to ensure that the citizens (who generally add up as voters) don’t lose their trust in the system that nominates a presidential candidate (146). In addition, these changes also ensure the regeneration of leadership if possible. This has a huge impact because, when a new president is installed, people will respect the person in charge and will not cause a havoc of any kind..…
Everyone knows the intersection on Hoover and Jefferson. It’s where students and faculty and neighbors of the community for a moment in time all come together. That intersection represents not only ones entrance and exit from the “USC bubble,” but provides a moment of realization that there is life beyond the classrooms, the books, and even the 2 mile “Fruber” radius around USC. See USC, provides the opportunity for one to reach their goals, to take their dreams and make them a reality. However, sometimes it takes a whole community and a 30 second traffic light to get you where you need to go.…
How is our political system portrayed in Hollywood films? In the movie The American President, the president is shown performing many important roles. There is also an interest group known as the GDC that is working to influence the political process. Another element represented in the movie is the media exposing a lot of the president’s private life to the public and how that affects the political environment. These elements of the movie provide a realistic view of our modern political system.…
To my knowledge, there is only one Landon Follett Van Wagoner in the world, but what's in a name? I suppose that my upbringing isn't far off the norm for a BYU student. I grew up in Bountiful Utah and was blessed to be raised in a family that is active in the church, where my siblings and I learned the foundational lessons of faith. I am presently serving a mission in Melbourne Australia, and I will be attending Brigham Young University this fall.…
Since America’s founding, our nation has been led by 43 Commander-in-Chiefs, each on bringing their own way of leading into history. There has been mistakes made, and there have been great triumphs, but no matter what our country has faced we look to one person to lead us, making the job of being President of the United States perhaps the most fulfilling and demanding job. However, over the past presidency and our current, the American people have seemingly become increasingly frustrated with our leaders, both in Congress, and our leader in the oval office. Why have we become so discontent with our president? With correlation of increased public disapproval, there has also been an observance that presidential power over the past and current presidencies as stretched beyond its constitutional limits.…
The decision of the year has been Trump or Clinton. There has been hate, questionable actions, and an array of surprises when we reflect on this years presidential election. There is no doubt that it is controversial, but in the end either Trump or Clinton will be moving into the Oval Office in the start of next year.…
I, like most teenagers, have wasted my time in several interesting and sometimes fruitful ways. For example, I have chopped water bottles in half, made smoke bombs, played interesting games, looked at the stars for far too long, and just randomly drove around. However, one way I have previously wasted time was especially interesting and worthwhile.…
