Prescription required for the purchase of all pseudoephedrine related medicines.

Proposal to reduce the availability of pseudoephedrine in order to eliminate methamphetamine labs.

Summary:

Methamphetamine (also known as meth) is a very serious and dangerous drug that has become a huge problem particularly in the state of Missouri. Over the past 5 years, Missouri has become the number one state for meth related incidents. My partner Alex and I are proposing a law that requires a prescription for all sales of cold and allergy remedies containing pseudoephedrine; the main ingredient used in producing meth.

Introduction:

Pseudoephedrine, also known as PSE is a sympathomimetic drug that is used as a nasal/sinus decongestant, a stimulant, or as a wakefulness/promoting agent. …show more content…
The over the counter sales of this product have made it very easy and attainable to produce and sell mass quantities of this highly dangerous drug.

My partner Alex and I are proposing a policy that requires a prescription for PSE, which would then limit the amount of meth produced in Missouri.

The production of meth is very high in Missouri, and it continues to be a problem threatening the lives of the people who live there.

The producing of Methamphetamine is highly dangerous.

•World wide 24.7 million meth abusers. 2,068 of those were in Missouri alone.(7)

•Meth labs are very expensive to clean up, average cost is $4,000.4)

•Per pound of meth produced, 5-7 pounds of toxic waste is also
