There is a conflict between Federal and State law regarding the eligibility of undocumented students for in-state tuition rates. Section 505 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 prohibits illegal aliens from receiving in-state tuition rates at public institutions of higher education. State and federal grants are awarded only to U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. To apply for a federal or state grant, one must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which requires the student’s social security number. Federal student loans are also not available to undocumented students. Most high school seniors rely on federal money as most of their financial aid for college. Students see their peers receiving federal financial aid and do…

Mr. Robins was hired in at ABC Inc. and has been with the company approximately six months when he was tasked to hire 15 new trainees. These new trainees are to work for Monica Carrolls, who is the operations supervisor of ABC Inc. Mr. Robins has run into several issues during the hiring process of these 15 individuals. Ms. Carrolls has also neglected to follow up with Mr. Robins to ensure he was accomplishing the task that had been assigned to him. The largest problem is Mr. Robins is unprepared for orientation; he failed to notice that several trainees’ applications were incomplete, several trainees’ files were missing transcripts, and mandatory drug screenings were not completed on any of the new trainees. In addition to those problems Mr. Robins needs 15 completed orientation manuals, and he has not found a reasonable place to hold orientation for the new trainees. As we analyze this situation, we will observe issues that Mr. Robins has had, training issues within the company, and lack of mentoring by his management.…

This bill could potentially effect the funding and resources the school gets from California as well as surrounding states. Such resources could include gas, food supply, water, etc. If there is a shortage of those resources the state could be placed in a state of emergency in some sections or even the entire state. If this happens then education…

As claimed by VotersGuide, proposition 55, “Expands health care access for children. Healthier children are healthier students. Too many families can't afford basic health care, meaning children miss school or come to class sick.” (Voters Guide) Something many people do not seem to understand is that if those children are sick and they do not have health care, they also do not have a way to get better. This means more time out of school because they are too sick to stay there and learn, while they are home resting instead of at school learning, they would miss out on important lessons and that would show on their test scores. Having this proposition passed, “will improve access to health care services for the low-income children so they can stay healthy and thrive” (California Medical Association) California Medical Association is accurate in saying that these low income children will have a higher chance to thrive because of the fact that this healthcare is in place. Due to this healthcare, they will not have something else holding them back to learn. Now in time, whenever they are sick, they have a chance to go to the doctors to get checked and given medicine or even a shot that will help them get cured from whatever illness or bug it is that they…

Proposition 187: Racism in 20th Century America Living in the United States of America we are promised three things, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Declaration of Independence sets forth these three unalienable rights, which it argues are given to all human beings and should be protected by the government. While these three things may be protected under American law, there is no doubt that within our society exists a racial hierarchy; one in which whites are at the top and everyone else is below them. Proposition 187 was an initiative which sought to prohibit illegal immigrants from using basic social services such as health care and public education.…

The debate of illegal immigration in the United States is one that is plagued with many details, and one that sparks a huge amount of controversy among politicians and citizens alike. While it is an issue that many argue about, few people are actually knowledgeable about the subject and have facts to back up their opinions. According the Center for Immigration Studies, the “unauthorized resident immigrant population is defined by all foreign-born non-citizens who are not legal residents” (CIS). This definition incudes people who emigrate from countries all over the world; it is not exclusive to those who come from Mexico and surrounding Central and Southern American countries. Although the numbers from such neighboring countries are greater because they are in closer proximity to the United States, they are not the only immigrants illegally entering the country. Also, their presence in the country is not as harmful as opponents of illegal immigration make it out to be. Cons of illegal immigration include a higher unemployment rate among Americans, overcrowding in schools and hospitals, and the burden that immigrants become when they use services such as welfare and Social Security, leading to a loss of American taxpayers’ money.…

“Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona signed the nation’s toughest bill on illegal immigration into a law on Friday, April 23, 2010” (Archibold). This became a law on July 29, 2010. This bill is designed to rid the streets of Arizona of illegal immigrants. The illegal immigration law is called Arizona Senate Bill 1070. This law allows the government officials and police officers to ask for papers of legal documentation. This law immediately sparked up citizens and non-citizens (legal/illegal immigrants) to fight for their right. “The move unleashed immediate protests and reignited the divisive battle of immigration reform nationally.” (Archibold)…

    California Dream Act

Born and raised here in the U.S. many students, and parents for that matter, are currently struggling with the bills, loans, and the stress of trying to stabilize a healthy future for themselves by pursuing an education. When a law like the California Dream Act is passed, it makes those who have done nothing but follow the rules of our legal system, feel as if the right as a legal citizen is being pushed aside. The money to fund the education of these illegal immigrants has to come from somewhere, causing a bigger whole to burn in tax payer’s pocket; when the money can easily go elsewhere to legal students in dire need of it. The state of California has always portrayed itself as the “free” state and allowed equal opportunity to everyone, to the point where now legal citizenship does not seem as if it really matters anymore. The California Dream Act may seem as if it is the answer to our educational system but when better dissected we see that with limited funding, we are defying the rights of legal citizens by providing for the education of the undocumented immigrants and bearing the expense of increased taxes and tuition.…

In the article, "Special Licenses for Immigrants Draw Protests in North Carolina," by David Zucchino, he tells a story of a fight over driver's licenses for illegal immigrants in North Carolina. The key issue with the license is that it has a pink stripe running across the top of the card, and a phrase saying "No Lawful Status," as well as a restriction on the back reiterating the same fact. Many people, including the author based on his biased sources, are opposed to this label and say that it is discriminatory and will provide a stigma to immigrants with this license. Supporting evidence is shown through a various number of sources, mainly the illegal immigrants themselves. These immigrants are protected under the deferred action program, which provides work permits and defers deportation for two years for immigrants brought into the country as children. One immigrant, Cinthia Marroquin, who is a coordinator for an advocacy group, asks, “why make it so discriminatory,” and then says that they are trying to “out [illegal immigrants].” The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina (ACLU) says that it is “unnecessary” and could “lead to harassment… and racial profiling.” The Latin American Coalition in Charlotte says that it “would create a class of ‘inferior’ citizens,” considering that over 15,000 deferred-action applicants have been approved in North Carolina.…

Prepositions are abstract words that have no concrete meaning. They merely show the relationships between groups of words. A good way to test if a word is a preposition is to position it in front of phrases like "the box" or "the sides of the box" and see if the phrase makes sense. For prepositions concerning time, try positioning the preposition in front of a phrase like "the movie." (This rule works for about nine out of ten prepositions). Here are some…
