Prepare for the Worst
It’s a beautiful day. The leaves are beginning to change color, there’s a crisp breeze that feels especially nice after the scorching summer. On this beautiful day most people would be out walking or enjoying nature. But not Rodger. He’s busy preparing.
He’s always been strange. Strange as in a worrier. He worried about everything. His life consisted of what ifs. But there had always been two main worries. Robbers and the world ending. He focuses more on preparing for the end of the world, than learning defense mechanisms against robbers. Little did he know, he was focusing on the wrong thing.
To be able to survive in his house in case the outside world is not livable, he needs a lot of water and food. But those aren’t his biggest concerns. He is most worried about robbers wanting his food. He’s never actually had a girlfriend…or even talked to girls. But he wished he had a wife. Having another person in the house would just make him feel safer. One of his biggest fears is staying home alone at night. He would rather eat cow manure than stay home alone. “Come in.” “Hey Rodger! Long time, no see!” “Yeah, yeah. Sit down.”
It was the day Rodger dreaded most, Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the people he grew up with in the same house soon will become his greatest fear. “Sit down. Dinner is in five.”
Rodger went down the stairs to get beverages. Foot steps, he heard foot steps. Some times he hears things that are not real but, this is real. Rodger nearly peed in his pants. His legs became weak, he started to sweat and his heart raced. He took a few deep breaths telling himself, I know what to do.
He started forward toward the light switch. All of his skills are about to be used. He let out a big breath, and flipped the light switch, then jumping into his stance.
“FREEZE,” he stated with force.
There’s no one there. Rodger’s paranoid. He grabbed the beverages and headed up stairs.
“What took you so long!?” One of his brothers asked.
“Oh… I had trouble finding the stuff,” he hesitated to say.
Everyone left and Rodger was sad. He doesn’t like company, but he hates being alone more. The next day he had to go down in the basement to return the extra chairs he had brought up. He was trembling with fear. The door was open, and he started down the stairs. He was at the bottom and he swore he heard steps, but he reasoned, it was probably just his crazy brain tricking him. He hears creaks. But he’s not walking. He looks around the room and sees nothing. He turns the door knob to put the chairs and tables away. There’s someone staring back at him. He freezes. Excruciating pain hits him in the face. He hits the gound and faints. He awakes and he’s tied to a chair. Looking straight into Rodger’s eyes was his brother.
