Pregnancy Discrimination Act Research Paper
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act is an amendment to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act that prohibits using pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions to discriminate in hiring, promotion, suspension, or discharge, or in any term or condition of employment. If an employer offers disability coverage as a benefit, then they must treat pregnancy and childbirth like any other disability. There have been many employers sued over this act and there will be many more (Equal Opportunity and the Law). An employer cannot refuse to hire a woman because of her pregnancy related condition as long as she is able to perform the major functions of her job. If an employee is temporarily unable to perform her job due to pregnancy, the employer must treat
