1 What is diversity? Why is diversity valued?

The definition of diversity is mostly misunderstood and associated with “culture” or “race”. Diversity means similarity and difference. In other words, the condition that describes similarities and differences is called diversity. Diversity can be described as the qualities and unique traits that vary from person to person, or from one group to the next, that make us different. By valuing diversity, we acknowledge the benefits of our differences and similarities.
Diversity is valued because there is a great deal of knowledge to be gained from one culture to the next because of the different ways in which we see the world, and the different approaches we take in solving our problems. (Diversity, 2011)

This is why racial and cultural tolerance is so important. We must also realize that our own way is not the only way. (What is ethnocentrism, 2011)

(Laudon & Laudon, 2011)

4 What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?
