Week 5- Describe what is meant by the 'praise-and-ignore' approach to classroom management. What are the strengths and limitations of this approach? Give several examples of the types of incidents to which it might be applied appropriately.’

There are many theories on classroom practice, there are also many of ways which foster the approaches in which educators can create and facilitate students learning. To be able to create and conduct a positive and productive classroom atmosphere educators require the understanding of how to approach classroom management (O’Donnell et al. 2016, p.236) accurately. At school Lisa discovered that she loves and thrives on any kind of attention, good or bad. Her prep teacher has asked her to not call out in class on numerous occasions to little avail. The educator has now decided to implement a strategy, (B et al., 2005) the tactic of ignoring the loud (benign) disruptive behaviour and only use praise for the good behaviour. Over the week, Lisa realised she only received attention when she listened and did her work neatly and well, she liked the praise and settled into the modified behaviour pattern of acceptable classroom behaviour. Lisa’s behaviour was determined by her constant disruption of the classroom, recognising that Lisa was thriving on any kind of attention. The key teaching practices in this situation were identifying Lisa had a behaviour issue and addressing it by using the praise and ignore approach (B et al., 2005). As a future educator, it is important to carry the foundation of skills that it requires to help students learn behaviours and knowledge, having a healthy open communication with the students parents/carer will also actively enforce positive learning and motivate the student to carry out this behaviour in
