Practice Makes Perfect In the eleventh grade I overcame one of my most difficult challenges that I faced along my academic journey. One day towards the end of my junior year, I had to give a presentation on an 80’s topic in front of my entire History class. I felt pretty good about it because my best friend Bethany and I always teamed up on these types of things. We looked at each other across the room and smiled, knowing that we would definitely be one of the best groups. Until my teacher, Mr. Grodz, explained that we would be doing it by ourselves. My heart dropped into my stomach. The presentation had to be four minutes long, much longer than I was comfortable with. I decided to do my presentation on fashion because fashion has always been an interest of mine. I’ve always been scared of giving presentations on my own because I’m scared people are judging me. The fear of being in front of my pupils had me thinking about the presentation quite frequently. I had a lot of sleepless nights tossing and turning because I was so nervous. But I was really excited about doing the research on the fashion, so soon as I had the chance I got started. The first thing I did was I went on my computer and researched what kind of fashion was popular. After I had a general idea of what I was looking for my mom drove me to Gabes. I searched around for something that looked like the pictures that I saw and eventually I found the perfect outfit. For a week straight I researched and made a presentation full of fashion visuals. But now I had to practice actually speaking in front of people. I started looking for tips on how to efficiently speak in public. I looked up articles and even watched YouTube videos. One tip that I always found useful was not to rock back and forth while standing at the podium. Luckily my brother was a musician, so I borrowed one of his music stands to practice speaking with my notes. After I got comfortable not walking around with my stand,
