Power Of The Environment Analysis
Dr. Gail Gross, the author of the article The Power of the Environment discusses ways parents can enhance child development through their child’s environment. Dr. Gross gives helpful suggestions for parents on how to make the most out of their child’s environment so that they get optimal learning experiences. Dr. Gross explains the things babies and toddlers do are to discover their world. Dr. Gross suggests finding what your child is interested in and using that as a learning experience. Dr. Gross also discusses the development of children’s personality. Genetic predisposition does play a part in personality development however it does not have to define a child. Children can change and overcome some personality traits,however, it depends on how parents react to the expression of these traits that helps change them.

How might this affect the way the parents raise their children? If I were a parent reading this article, I would have a better understanding of child development. I would also be prompted to think about the environment that I am raising my child in, does it have opportunities for my child to learn? I would also think about what I could do to expand my child's learning ability with just the things I have available to me, like going for a walk or just during dinner using what we are eating. Parents are their child’s first teacher.
Question 2. Do you agree that personality development is in someone's genes and it is the way that we react to a personality trait that brings it out suppresses it? I agree that the way a parent or teacher reacts to a child’s personality can either enhance a behavior or diminish it. If a child is acting out and a parent just scolds them for doing so then they may be more likely to continue to act out, if a parent reacts calmly and talks with the child about what is really wrong with the child, it is my belief that the child will learn to come to the parent when they have an issue instead of acting
