"The Cruible” written by Arthur Miller portrays how power can destroy people’s life, if it falls into the wrong hands. In the town of Salem, power is never seen in a single person’s hand consistently at any time. it shifts from one person to another. Starting from Reverend parris, for being the one chosen by god to serve people with Christianity, he thinks he is higher in power then all the others who live in Salem. Salem is a small place with a small population. people believe in witchcraft and also blame some others of it as Abigail does blame Elizabeth and some others for it so that she gets what she wants. Puritans also believed in power as a person who has the most money. for example puritans verses Tituba. She would be considered the least powerful because she is enslaved by white people and she is poor while the putnams are the richest family in Town. In “The Crucible”, the trials take place against a very dominant and pious society, the characters of this play think that demolishing the witches from Salem was god’s work. Not ending here, there were so many heated up fueds that the people wanted to seek revenge for, also took advantage of the situation and put them on trial.. Miller shows the abuse of power through Abigail for sexual desire, through putnam for his jealousy of other people’s status in the society and through Parris being scared of the truth and losing his power. The demand of sexual desire by Abigail makes her propel nineteen innocent people to their death bed. Abigail Williams is a orphan girl who works for Elizabeth proctor, and while working for her, she gets attracted towards John Proctor and fancies him. As Elizabeth is sick, john indulges in a sexual relation with Abigail, but john is not able to hold it back with him which is why he confesses. Elizabeth fires Abigail because of this she can not meet John again. John forgets about Abigail and wants to lead a happy married life again but his hopes are crushed when Elizabeth is put
