Poverty is defined as the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor; deficiency of necessary or desirable, ingredients, qualities, scantiness; insufficiency. (www.dictionary.com) There are many people in our country and other countries that suffer from this condition. The third world countries seem to bear the brunt of this condition. Pollution is defined as the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. (www.dictionary.com) Our country and other countries are responsible for the pollution of the environment all over the world. Emissions from companies that have gone to the third world countries have contributed to the pollution problem. We are all responsible. How are poverty and pollution connected? Who is truly responsible for this, where are the most polluted and poverty stricken places, and what can we do about it? The answers are not easy to find. No one wants to take responsibility for what is happening to our earth. No one wants to put the money that they make by polluting the earth to clean up the earth. It is just not the businesses that cause the pollution. Some of the third world countries have had a problem with this before they moved into the area. They should take responsibility also. There are many ethical implications of businesses polluting in a third world country. Businesses feel that they can pollute the third world countries because the people there are poor and the country is under developed. Third world countries do not have the pollution regulations like the countries in the west, such as our country. This allows companies to build manufacturing plants, such as the automobile industry in whatever third world country they decide on and pay that government privilege fees for being there. There have been companies in the US that

Pollution is the act or process of polluting or the state of being polluted, especially the contamination of soil, water, or the atmosphere by the discharge of harmful substances (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=pollution). Pollution is a universal problem. It seems that many businesses and people are unaware of the effect that pollutants have on people. Car exhaustion, tobacco smoking, dumping waste, and emission from factories and plants are just a few ways to pollute our ozone. I will discuss two Acts that the Environmental Protection Agency complies with. They include the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.…

We have come to find that business have started polluting in third world countries. Because of US regulations against dumping and the fines. Big Business has sought to dump in these under-developed third world countries where they have little or no pollution regulations. Ethically how can we value one human life from another? Or case study 7.2: Poverty and pollution states that the poor pay the price of pollution. Lawrence Summers the director of the National Economic Council has argued that banks should encourage dirty polluted industries to poorer less developed countries. Pollution is a very tough topic in today’s market and in my personal opinion; Government should intervene for the following reason. Let's take the example of a company that manufactures blue jeans at a factory location on a river. The problem is that, as a byproduct of its manufacturing operations, the factory dumps chemical pollutants into the river. But no single person or entity owns the river water, so there is no one to force the company to stop polluting. Moreover, since cleaning up the river would cost money, the company can sell its paper products more cheaply than if it had to absorb such pollution control costs. As a result, the paper company can further increase its output, responding to the relatively higher demand at its lower prices, leading to more waste and pollution from its factory. By polluting without penalties, the company may also have an unfair advantage over competitors whose paper products do reflect the cost of installing pollution control equipment. This is a classic example of a so called external cost that is not reflected in the price through normal workings of the marketplace. Neither the paper company nor its customers are bearing the actual cost of paper production; instead, a portion of the cost, the pollution factor has been shifted to the people who live or work along the river and those taxpayers who eventually are stuck with the cleanup bill. Like other externalities, pollution often occurs where the ownership of a resource, in this case the river is not held by individuals or private organizations. Public lands and roadsides, for example, are more often littered than the lawns in front of people's homes, because no one person owns these public lands and takes the responsibility for keeping them clean, and prosecuting those who despoil them. Most pollution is, in fact, released into the air, oceans, and rivers precisely because there are no individual owners of those resources who have strong…

The article mentioned that at the beginning of industrialization, pollution was serious; as countries grow rich, they have ability to control pollution. I disagree with author’s idea. On the one hand, when developing countries get rich, they prefer to spend more money to support other problems, such as their economy, people’s daily life, education level and health care—factors for which countries are more concerned. On the other hand, developed countries like to build their…

Poverty and pollution are both bad. Poverty is the lack of the things we need for everyday living. Everyone needs the following in order to stay out of poverty: food, water, shelter, education, medical care and security. People that do not have these items are considered below poverty. People that live in third world countries do not have access to these things. There are at least 4.4 billion people that live in these third world countries that are stricken by poverty. Out of the 4.4 billion three fifths or more do not have any type of sanitation. Over one third of these people do not have access to clean water. When it comes to having shelter there are about a quarter of them that do not have this. Modern health services can be very few to come by in a third world country. Over a fifth of these people do not have any access to a doctor or hospital. Many people in a third world country have never even seen the inside of a school. With this being said what can we do? We can help out by taking the time to be sure that we help everyone.…

Pollution has been haunting us in recent years during which we have gradually become accustomed to sand storms but then we are being challenged by smog. We begin to complain about the rapid economic growth, the governmental dereliction of duty and decline of citizens’ quality. To some extent, we sometimes tend to believe that only if the government and citizens work hand in hand to curb environmental pollution, the problem can disappear. However, this is not the case. Even if the government and citizens are willing to trust each other and devote themselves to reduce pollution, there remains another insurmountable hurdle: the role assignment of developing countries in globalization.…

Humans, in their overzealous attempts to develop the world around them, have set in motion the process of its deterioration. Today, we hear of environment problems such as pollution, acid rain, ozone depletion and the greenhouse effect. Pollution issue is a global issue that needs commitment from everyone. Pollution refers to the contamination or poisoning of the environment. Unfortunately, environment pollution has become part and parcel of modern-day living.
