Potential Evening Food Service Study
Memo

Date: July 15, 201
To: Randy Mueller, Advisor, Student Government
From: Charles Morales, Chair, Student Government Food Service Committee (Ext. 2555)
Subject: Potential Evening Food Service Study

Purpose The purpose of this proposal is to request approval to study the need and demand of evening food service from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, Monday through Thursday at Evergreen Technical College. Summary On July 1, 2013, the Student Government Association forwarded emails and comments made by students regarding the lack of evening food service on the Evergreen Technical College campus to the Student Government Food Service Committee. A vocal minority feels that food service needs to be offered at Evergreen Technical College in the evening; the planning, supervision, and workforce that allows Evergreen to provide similar food service during the day is not available; providing food service cannot become a reality unless sufficient consumer demand is measured to be present . The committee would like to explore the demand for such a service and to determine its feasibility. We are proposing a study that would allow us to survey students, faculty, and instructors to get a comprehensive view of demand. We will advertise though the student newsletter and school websites to help gather a more complete sample. If this proposal is passed, the committee would begin work immediately and submit its final report to the Student Government. Introduction On July 1, 2013, the Student Government Association forwarded emails and comments made by scholars regarding the lack of evening food service on the Evergreen Technical College campus to the Student Government Food Service Committee. Comments made by students suggest some have difficulty learning and staying focused due to lack of food options on campus during evening hours. Student Joe Smith emailed on April 25, 2013 that almost his entire class of 25 students would like food

As LUC students, we are very fortunate to have food readily available to us in the dining halls. The food options off campus around LUC are minimal, so it is ideal to have halls on campus that have different foods to choose from. These halls have many different problems surrounding the specific dining experience though, which affects current and prospective students, faculty, and staff. A recent article from the Phoenix reports that the hygiene of the dining hall employees has room for improvement. A student claimed, “he saw dining hall workers go out for a cigarette and come straight back to serving food” (Beckford 1). There have been reports of bugs in the salad bar and mold in the icemakers. Also, the dining halls have received lower levels on food inspections due to temperature problems that could potentially affect anyone who eats there. Although there were reports of roaches at the University of Chicago in 2012, which is worse than any reports at LUC, it is still very important that LUC works to improve the hygiene at their dining halls (Beckford 2).…

Today I’m going to be explaining why upperclassmen should have the option of an open campus lunch period. Now you may have some misgivings about this idea. Things such as no way of controlling who is leaving the school grounds, the cost of buying food, and the safety of those behind the wheel. But these are false presumptions that are made about open or off-campus lunch.…

The Madison Metropolitan School District in Madison, Wisconsin has gone through lots of modifications since the year 1965. They have grown in different ways such as proportions, and also changed the meals programs, consolidated in certain areas, and contracted with other programs. They have gotten missed on some budgets, and have gained and lost money, they have even had different sets of rules and politics that they have dealt with. But even as the challenges have come and the changes are continuously made there is a constant (if at sometimes slow) positive and steady progress…

The three major features of my audience are, first, they are a mass of people that can lead to change in decisions; second, the current view on this topic and third is awareness. Now the question that needs an answer is, do we need a change? If the answer is yes, then the time is now. Free meal or low-cost meal does not mean a low quality or limited quality and quantity of food materials. If the nutrition is not reached up to a minimum level also then what is the use of giving free or low-cost meals to the students.…

Recently, I have been enlightened in the world of food. Through some internet reasherch and a few documentaries is have come to find out the power of food. This newfound insight has pushed me to write to you today. Newfound, I say that with intent. I haven't learned this until now, 16 years into my existence. The fact of the matter, is that it's imperative that schools provided local, fresh, and plant based diets. But I would like to clear something up its not your fault and I'm not trying to acusse you of any wrong doing. Along with that your doing the best you can with the resources you have providing…

When looking for food on campus you have many choices, from fast food to a salad, however, many students are not aware that there is a free food service at dal. For this assignment I chose to volunteer and further my knowledge about the Loaded Ladle, a food organization at Dalhousie. This organisation was created in 2010 to show the students that they do not need to pay corporate companies for their food on top of paying thousands of dollars for their tuition.…
