Postsecondary Essay
Postsecondary Pathway Plans I have chosen a forensic scientist as my first career option. This occupation requires a university degree. However, the preparation begins in high school.
Step 1: In high school it is highly recommended to take advanced level math and science courses. University English and calculus and vectors are mandatory for university. Government, phycology, law, and computers should be taken into consideration as well. However, for myself I will mainly focus on the mandatory courses as well as biology, chemistry, and physics.
Step 2: I will acquire a bachelor's of science degree in biology next. I will attend the University of Western Ontario and stay on campus. This program is approximately $7,500 per year and residency is $9,160 per year. I will stay in a single room in the Ontario Hall and include a $2,200 meal plan. Including books and other expenses the total price after the four years will be about $83, 440. To pay for the majority of these expenses I will work full time during the summer and part time during the school year. To help with the cost I will use $20,000 that my family has saved and I will apply for The John Charles Polanyi Prizes scholarship that is valued at $20,000.

Both careers have some pros and cons. I like that they are both hands on jobs. However, they both require long hours. I would prefer a forensic scientist due to the more regular work hours. Being a veterinarian would be a more challenging career due to the competition to get into vet school. Changing careers would be easy due to the fact that they both require a bachelor of science degree. I can't wait to take all the necessary steps in order to achieve my final goal. Doing this assignment has helped me to start thinking more in depth about the future and what I can do right now to get
