Positive Stereotypes
A stereotype is defined as a widely held but fixed generalization about a group of people in which certain traits are assigned to all members of the group, regardless of actual variation among the members. Positive stereotypes can be defined as positive traits that describe a group of people. I am interested in researching the distinction between positive and negative stereotypes among Asian Americans. More specifically, I am interested in seeing the reactions of Asian Americans when being ascribed to positive stereotypes. I am interested in seeing if the positive stereotypes (example: Asians are good at math) are perceived as harmful and negative by Asian Americans.
