Porter Ralph Lauren

The company carries Wiegandt’s high quality furniture whose furniture is heavily advertised. Since the economic condition has not been steady and new competitors are entering the market Haefren Baum had to decrease its prices in order to maintain sales volume, these challenges (competition, economy) caused a decrease in sales by (-21%) between 93,94, a decrease of( -1.24% )between 94,95. Haefren Baum’s products reflect cyclical demand because others seasons did not cause a decline in sales, but instead the economy and competition. The profit potential that exist in the luxury goods industry could be better understood through an analysis of Porter’s five forces model. Starting with the threat of entry, the industry is unlikely to have new entrants because of the sustained competitive advantages of the existing successfully luxury brands. Leading companies such as Coach, Michael Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, and etc. all have brand name recognition due to their success and popularity. According to the article, “To be unique and exclusive you cannot be ubiquitous.” (Gamble, 2015, C-81) For instance, Coach, Inc. strengthened their brand by becoming a leader in their accessible luxury segment by focusing on being unique in this market. Coach, Inc. and the other popular brands, have strong personal identifications because of the strategies they put in place. For this reason, new entrants to the market will have trouble attracting consumers who stand strong with the popular brand because of their loyalty. The power of suppliers within the industry for the luxury good market is low as the industry is not very concentrated. Materials to produce luxury goods, such as leather, are supplied in various countries throughout the world. For Coach, Inc. the case states, “All of the company’s leather products were manufactured by third-party suppliers in Asia.” (Gamble, 2015, C-71) Since Coach and the other…

When the economy is not positive and is moving slow it impacts consumer traffic, quantity of donations and the quality of donations. Those factors also affect the capability to provide enough working and training hours for employees. Goodwill must market just as any other retailer, but with more of a purpose because the goal is not only to make a profit. Another environmental trend that impacts Goodwill’s performance is the internet. The growth of e-commerce has many consumers selling their high quality items online, at such sites as E-bay, and donating the low quality items to Goodwill or consumers will not donate at all. Therefore, Goodwill’s marketing strategies and tactics are impacted and marketers must work to evolve their marketing mix. Goodwill recognizes the behavior of consumers and the products that peak their interests. Each store is in a different environment and must market to the consumers of that environment. By following trends of the fashion market employees and marketers know to look for specific items which they know the consumer is eager to own. This is called the ‘pull method’. By providing what the consumer demands it pulls the customer into the store. Another useful tool in the marketing mix is e-commerce. Goodwill participates in e-commerce and offers consumers the same opportunity as other e-commerce retailers to bid on items starting at $9.99. There are also Goodwill boutiques that market to more of an upscale clientele with higher end items and…

Even though one might believe that the system used by Benetton and such other collections such as GAP is superior due to the lower labor costs by the outsourcing to other countries and other reasons, in reality the process used by Inditex, the worlds third largest clothing retailer, to produce the Zara brand is much better because even with higher labor costs, transportation and shipping involve in the manufacturing process and shipping finished product to stores, costs are still lower and the product is in one place for production. Thus Inditex has greater responsiveness and flexibility. Inditex uses a network of several smaller manufacturing companies that provide needed materials and provide more flexibility. In addition, Inditex owns all its own shops and is not operated in retail franchises that are owned by third parties. This extra “hands on” approach allows Inditex to have a lot more control over both production and sell of product and allows them to have more direct consumer contact to improve their product or know what the consumer wants. By combining high fashion, rapid response to sales feedback, and low costs—giving the consumer low pricing, Inditex definitely has the superior…

By his early teens, he was working after school jobs so that he could save up to buy expensive suits. Although he knew he could find his clothes at a less expensive price, he made it a point to look stylish in his expensive threads -- and he has succeeded at looking cool in his attire since the age of 12.…

The above ratios can be used to measure the efficiency of a firm’s investment policy. Burberry has a higher land, buildings and equipment to sales ratio as well as a higher depreciation to sales ratio. The higher the ratio of land, buildings and equipment to sales, the smaller the investment required to generate sales revenue and therefore the higher the profitability of the firm. Moreover, the ratio of depreciation to sales provides a measure of the level of non-cash expenditure in relation to total sales. Consequently, Burberry appears to be relatively more efficient in managing its assets in relation to the revenue generated than H&M.…
