Pornography: Morally Ethical or Unethical?
Executive Summary
This report challenges the question of whether pornography is morally ethical or unethical and how society views it today. There were three key ethical theories used to related and cross-examine to see and understand the different views of pornography and how each ethical theory provides a different reasoning behind it. Whether pornography is ethical or unethical in society, this research paper provides you with concrete examples of why our society feels the way they do about pornography and what has influenced those decisions. Pornography can be depicted into so many different forms of sexual arousal and this is the basis for examining what is right or wrong within our society. There are many different factors that play important roles for example culture.
My goal for this paper was to provide you with an in-depth look at what pornography is, how the Utilitarian, Divine Command Theory, and Kantian theories affect how our society portrays pornographic material. Furthermore how we, as individuals believe whether this topic is ethically right or wrong. After analyzing this report, and the background information provided, I came to a personal conclusion that society is too general on this topic. It ultimately comes down to an individual’s personal ethics and what they feel is ethical or unethical. Everyone has a different view on something and what may be ethical for someone may be unethical for another and vice versa.

Background
What exactly is pornography? As defined by Merriam-Webster, pornography is “the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement”. (Merriam-Webster, 2013) Pornography is hard to have one specific definition, when the meaning of porn varies from person to person and from culture to culture. Pornography is constantly changing and the way society views it, continually altering as well. With society relying heavily on the internet, pornography is not only being made

What is the difference between an action and a porn movie? They are both something you can rent, buy , watch , they both come in the same video formats. Thus the key difference that deferentiates pornography is its content – sex. Sex is something that is absolutely normal , and actually is the main drive behind the human evolution. Human beings are aware that except for reproduction, sex is also something that brings pleasure and is one of the basic human needs. Than what defines a pornographic movie is that first of all it is a movie(its format) and second of all it has content (sex). Therefore if movies are morally accepted in the society, and sex itself is also a normal event between two(or more) human beings , combining two “moral” statements should bring us a conclusion that pornography is moral. Pornography is a product of choice. The increased demand for pornographic movies is picturing quite vividly that people choose to watch porn on their own will, and thus there is nothing immoral in it. Pornography as a job is also usually a personal choice and thus in the whole process of creating an adult movie all the parties are willingly consenting to participate , which again is not immoral because every person is entitled to the right of his or her own body.…

When discussing the “XXX” industry, otherwise known as pornography or the adult film industry, people tend to discuss it in hushed tones, or rather not discuss it much at all. When it comes to sex in general, America generally is uncomfortable talking about sex and topics related to it. It should come as no surprise that the porn industry is treated in a similar fashion. Pornography, according to Sullivan, was considered “sexually 'explicit' writings, still or motion pictures and similar products designed to be sexually arousing,” (Sullivan, 2012, pg.321).…

In this report, the ethical theories and perspectives of Utilitarianism, Deontology, and Ethical Egoism, described, compared, and applied to the topic of Pornography, attempt to analyze the morality this issue. It attempts to identify what the ethical issues of pornography are, and if there are there breaches of ethical behavior. While applying the ethical theories to analyze this debatable topic, it should help us think about what would constitute virtuous or ethical behavior. The ideology of popular proponents of each theory and perspective, such as Immanuel Kant, J. S. Mill, and James Racheals, discussed in-depth, attempt to explain the rationale behind people’s actions especially when distinguishing what is right or wrong regarding the ethical debate of pornography.
