Pop Quizzes
While most students dread pop quizzes, I truly believe that they are a fair way to test the students on their assignments they have to complete at home and their studying outside of class. Pop quizzes are also an effective way of recording progress of students and a way for a teacher to reach out to struggling students.

While a student may brush off one or two bad pop quiz grades, most students will ultimately change their study habits in order to save their grade. Students may actually read the required assignments, study post-lecture and truly learn the material covered in their classes.
While pop quizzes have many benefits to the students, they can also be of benefit for the teachers administering them. Pop quizzes will keep students guessing about which classes they need to attend- missing any class could put them in jeopardy of a zero on a pop quiz. While one zero on a pop quiz may not change their overall grade much, multiple zeros can cause students to struggle with their grade and eventually fall behind.
While missing a pop quiz and receiving a zero may be incentive enough for students to miss class, some students will notice that paying attention in their classes will help them ace their pop quizzes. When the students pay attention in class, they will be able to absorb more information and will be more engaged in classroom discussions. By keeping students coming to class and paying attention, teachers will see a major improvement in their students' learning and overall

Formative assessment is defined as a range of formal and informal assessment procedures employed by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment (A.U. 2011, n.p.). An example of teachers using formative assessments are asking the students questions during instruction, giving the students a quiz at the end of the day’s lesson, and allowing the students to write a one page summary of the lesson that was taught. One thing in this article, I think especially useful is the examination skills. Professor Leamnson said that “the absolute worst thing you can do is to fall for the crazy notion that the way to prepare for an exam is to compress it all in the last 12 to 18 hours before the test, and keep it up right to the very last minute (Leamnson 11).” It is exactly what most of the college students acting in school.
