Poor People Have Hope
A photograph taken by: Dennis Bautista, in Manila, Philippines, on August 7th 2010.
This photograph was taken on a Saturday, so for sure the little girl does not have schooling on that day, she just found this this bag from the trash and decide to play with it. “Whoever shut his ears at the cry of the poor, they also shall cry themselves, but not be heard” (proverbs 21:13) in the Bible. This full of meaning photograph shows a really deep and sadful reality which is living under the red line of poverty. Looking deep in this photo you can see and realize a painful reality, a miserable life that no one wish to live. The economic situation seems to be dead, there is no life, just misery, poverty, hunger that starving people are everywhere, you can also find people searching in the garbage to find the necessities every person needs, but instead all of that these people seems to have hope. “If a society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich” John F. Kennedy. It is known that Philippine is currently facing several political, economical, and social problems. The political system and the economical status are two inseparable factors on the growth of every country, and Philippine has no stable economic status because it has no stable government. The government plays a big part in managing and regulating the functions of the economy, it also must support the poor people in its country, even the rich ones, and at least it must provide shelter and food to the poor people living there. “A poor man with nothing in his belly needs hope, illusion more than bread” Georges Bernanos. Besides all these bad situations, there is a little girl that is dragging a bag she found in the garbage, and is playing the role of a kid who is going to his school, which means she didn’t give up the reality of not going to school, and watching other kids going to their college carrying their bags, instead of that she fought this reality and wished to be

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, in my personal opinion. This, I believe is because we need to understand that the fate of a society could depend on this maxim. This question made me think, a lot. Before I finally decided my side, I really thought about real life situations and what needs to be done to help the most people, and that is helping the many.…

Life is like a cruise ship… or at least until the engine blows up and your oasis of luxury sinks. Before you know it, you find yourself sitting in one of the few lifeboats, surrounded by hundreds of people who are now accurately portraying survival of the fittest. They are treading water and fearing sharks, all because there are not enough rafts. You are grateful to be in your lifeboat and eventually question if everyone on this earth has an equal right to an equal share in its resources (Hardin 1). Well, if you were not wondering about that, Garrett Hardin was. In his essay “Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor”, Hardin compares the condition of wealthy nations to that of a lifeboat. Hardin’s main idea is that wealthy nations should not offer any kind of assistance or support to people in poor countries because the outcome in doing so would be a catastrophe. Although Hardin’s ideas accurately state the problems of over-population and supporting the poor, he fails to defend his logic by not stating a satisfying compromise between the two extremes of giving all of our resources to the poor and not helping the poor at all.…
