Verbal and nonverbal communication plays a big role in our society. It takes place every day, all the time. Verbal communication is the words we choose to say when you talk to somebody. Choosing what you say can change what people think when you’re conversing with them. On the other hand, we have nonverbal communication, which also plays a big role. Nonverbal is our body language when we are speaking to somebody. It can consist of eye contact, facial expression, and posture. It can change what people think of you at a business meeting or interview. Both verbal and nonverbal can change a bad situation into a good one by simply choosing the right actions.
Firstly, Verbal communication affects my life at work all the time. At No Frills verbal communication can be difficult at times due to the variety of ethnic backgrounds and language barriers. For example, just last week an Asian customer tried asking for assistance and it was difficult to provide any assistance. I had to transfer her to one of the Managers who happened to speak Chinese and was able to assist her. It happened that she was trying to ask for a job application. It makes everyone’s life a little bit tougher due to her not having eligible verbal communication. Personally, this really upsets me that she couldn’t speak English in Canada or at least French which is our second language. I don’t know what’s going on in her life but she should at least be able to speak Basic English so she can communicate with everyone else to a certain extent.
Also, Nonverbal takes place quite a bit. At a recent theatre play I was at, it took play. But Even though verbal takes place at theatre play, nonverbal plays an even bigger role, Such as their posture, eye contact and facial expressions. A person’s posture can send a variety of rich messages, for example, in a Macbeth play your posture would have to be stiff and tight. Their facial expression shows what they are feeling such as sadness, happiness and Angriness to
