Ponyboy: A Short Story
After being rushed to the nearby hospital, we find out that Ponyboy came out nearly unscathed, except for a bruise across his back from where the jacket caught fire and a few minor burns. Despite the fact that Dally had scorched one of his arms and would likely be scarred for the rest of his life, he will get full use of it in a few weeks. However, not everybody was that lucky. Johnny is found in a critical condition. As the roof caved in, he had been struck by a piece of timber across his back and was suffering from several third-degree burns. He had passed out before reaching the window.

In the beginning of the story Dally and Ponyboy didn't get along the best. But throughout the story they became closer. Dally’s death happened right after he stole from the store. The cops showed up and circled around Dally under a street light. Dally soon pulled out a gun and acted like it was loaded but it really wasn't. How would the cops know that? They did not know that. After the cops told Dally to put the gun down multiple times and Dally still wouldn't do it so they shot him. Ponyboy took this really hard because him and Dally had gotten very close. Also dally had helped Ponyboy and Johnny out whenever they needed something. So I think that Ponyboy was really mad because he didn't stop it from happening. Also now Ponyboy is dealing with two deaths of his very good friends. “I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted” said Ponyboy (Hinton…

In the Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy shows that he doesn’t want his hair cut. He says that “It was my pride” and shows clear dislike to the idea of cutting his hair. The reason he is like that is that greasers are known for their hair, and it makes them feel like they belong. Ponyboy’s is very special to him and says that it makes him look “tuff.” When his hair is cut and bleached, he looks in the mirror and sees what he looks like. Ponyboy continues to say that he looks “like a blasted pansy.” Greasers are known for their hair and if they lose that, they don’t feel like they fit in or belong. Thanks to modern technology, messages can be sent in seconds to virtually anywhere in the world. However, this was not always the case. In 1860, the Pony Express was used to deliver mail and small packages across the United States, particularly throughout the west. The job was no easy task. According to the National Park Service, riders would ride “more than 1,800 miles in 10 days! From St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California the Pony Express could deliver a letter faster than ever before.” Due to the harsh conditions the riders and station workers had to endure, only men were allowed to work for the company. Even though the Pony Express was only in operation for nineteen months, it became associated with certain aspects of western culture and since then has been featured in many novels and western films. The television show The Young Riders gives a powerful insight to what it would be like to live in the wild west and to be a rider for the Pony Express.…
