Political Dynasty
Reaction Paper
“Propose bill of Sen. Ping Lacson for political dynasty”
Due to the growing number of political dynasties, Senator Ping Lacson proposed and supported a bill that is against it. For that, I admire his determination to halt all the families that are involved in this. I also commend him for being a good follower. This was proven by Sen. Lacson when he followed already the bill even though it is not approved yet. He vows that he would retire from politics if his son, Ronald Jay, runs and wins in the 2016 polls.
Political Dynasties should be stopped because of the negative effects of it in the good governance of our country. One of the effects, is corruption. For example, a senator discovered the anomalies of a congressman, he/she can easily cover it up because they are relatives. The other one is, one particular family has power all over the country thus, it results to injustices.
In Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s Bill, it was observed that political dynasty shouldn’t exist in local elective only. While as Sen. Lacson’s, not only local the local but also the national position is included. I think both of them have good intentions towards this. But they need to elaborate more the clause included in the said bill. Many people/government officials doesn’t approve of this because it is not clear to them the legal definition of a political dynasty and its corresponding consequences. I also think that it would be unfair for a candidate, who may be more qualified than his family or relative already elected in a public post, to be barred from running because of his relations. It is like we are. All in all, it is good but it should be clearer for the citizens and government to agree upon

Niccolo Machiavelli warned future politicians in 1513 to stay close to people they are ruling. Three centuries later, Tomas P “Tip” O’ Neill coined the term, “all politics are local”. He understood that in order to be a successful politician, he had to appeal to the simple, mundane and everyday concerns of those who elect them into office. Those personal issues, rather than big and intangible ideas, are often what voters care most about, according to this principle. In 1950 when Congressman Richard Nixon was running for the US Senate from California, he was running up against actress Helen Gahagan Douglas. Nixon needed to form an alliance…

    1. The two concepts of the key term in Bardes that I find most difficult to understand is aristocracy and capitalism. Aristocracy is a hereditary class ruled by a small number of individuals or a noble family. Capitalism is an economic system that produces and distributes privately or co-owned development from accumulating and reinvesting profits gained in free markets. Since I’m not into politics, these two key term makes it hard for me to distinguish upon trying to understand what types of different governments there are.…

Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, has been somewhat of a bright light in the dark chasm that is Capitol Hill as far as term limitation is concerned. He is firmly behind the idea of Congressional term limitation and is genuinely convinced that the entirety of Capitol Hill is corrupt. In 2015, Cruz was quoted as saying”…career politicians today make up what I call the Washington Cartel… (they) on a daily basis are conspiring against the American people.” Furthering his stance on political corruptness, Cruz also states that “Career politicians’ ears and wallets are open to the highest bidder (Schwarz).” To bluntly sum up Cruz’s statement, it is his belief that the American people are being scammed by the men and women they voted for. Probably the most intimidating part of his statement is the fact that he is addressing people he has been working with for some time. Perhaps if Mr. Cruz were to persuade some of the other younger members of Congress to see what he envisions, the Amendment would be able to see the light of…

Holders of the most important offices, the archonships, were selected from a short list (probably one hundred) preselected candidates of the two highest classes of citizens. After about 460 B.C., all four classes of citizens were eligible for archonship (Knag 1, 1998). Clearly, this system was prejudiced. A similar system of pre-selection could be integrated into a contemporary lot, but it would be based on a citizen’s hard work and achievement, rather than their class or social status. This way any self-motivated and reputable person could be a potential candidate, regardless of race, gender, or income-class. This would perform a valuable service by keeping such objectionable prejudices out of the election process (Steele 665, 1995). Although, this would still not guarantee a fair election in which every citizen had equal opportunity of being elected. Ultimately, there is no simple solution or test to use when choosing the potential…

My family has always been active in the Democratic Party, and I want to help continue that legacy. Both my grandfather and great grandfather were significant members of unions up in Pennsylvania, and my aunts and uncles have volunteered for the Democratic Party on multiple occasions. I have been instilled in my belief and faith in the party, and I want to play a helpful part in helping it during a crucial election. Also, I will miss the deadline for voting in the presidential election by two weeks, but I still want to be able to contribute to the party. My goal is to feel like I can make a change in the election at least locally because I cannot do so this presidential election with my vote. Finally, I feel deeply connected with the Democratic…

    Ruling class

In practical life we all recognize the existence of this ruling class (or political class, as we have elsewhere chosen to define it). We all know that, in our own country, whichever it may be, the management of public affairs is in the hands of a minority of influential persons, to which management, willingly or unwillingly, the majority defer. We know that the same thing goes on in neighboring countries, and in fact we should be put to it to conceive of a real world otherwise organized—a world in which all men would be directly subject to a single person without relationships of superiority or subordination, or in which all men would share equally in the direction of political affairs. If we reason otherwise in theory, that is due partly to inveterate habits that we follow in our thinking and partly to the exaggerated importance that we attach to two political facts that loom far larger in appearance than they are in reality.…
