On January 13th, 1999 in Woodlawn, Maryland, the life of Hae Min Lee has been taken, but by who seems to be the question. Hae was loved by many, she was beautiful, intelligent and outgoing, so who would want to kill her? Like many cases, the attention turned to her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed. Much attention has been brought to the case of The State v. Adnan Syed. From that attention came the Podcasts Serial and then Undisclosed. While the podcasts are told by different people and have different concepts, they both bring attention to wanting to know the truth. Jay Wilds was an acquaintance of Adnan Syed, not a friend, just an acquaintance. Jay was a year older than Hae and Adnan, and his only real connection to Adnan was his girlfriend, Stephanie, who was one of Adnan’s closest friends. Also, Adnan would loan his car out to Jay every Wednesday to make drug deals. Other than that though, Jay and Adnan meant nothing more to each other. In episode three of Undisclosed the listener hears when Detective Lehmann asked Jenn Pusateri, a friend of Jay’s, if Adnan and Jay were friends, Jenn stated, “Oh no, not at all, no.” During Adnan’s trial his attorney, Cristina Gutierrez, crossed examined Jay and stated to him, “You weren’t very tight with Adnan,” in which Jay replied, “No ma’am.” To many it may seem suspicious that of all people Adnan confided in Jay, whom he wasn’t friends …show more content…
In the tapes of Jay’s interview with investigators the listener often hears a tapping noise. That tapping noise isn’t made by Jay, but by the investigators. The investigators aren’t shy about giving away certain details or wording the question differently so that Jay ends up saying what they want to hear. While it is a serious allegation to point the fingers at the cops for trying to twist the truth or come up with their own story, it is not unlikely for police to do such a thing. In Undisclosed episode three, author Susan simply clearly states what she thinks is really going on in the tapes with Jay and the detectives, “The detectives are repeatedly bullying Jay into giving answers that they want. The detectives will tell Jay that he needs to give a certain answer, and again and again Jay complies. He does say what they tell him to say, and it’s not that subtle either.” Jay was only looking out for himself, he didn’t care if Adnan got charged with Hae’s murder. He and the detectives were determined to have their story made to look credible by Jay so that they could convict
