Planning Your Future
PLANNING MY FUTURE 2 Planning my future is vital to me; it is like designing a solid foundation for me and for my family. During these irregular times in our economy credentials play a vital part on the amount of opportunities that I have access to. In this essay I will talk about what steps I will take and what challenges, accomplishments, and experiences I plan on taking on while implementing this plan in my everyday life. Here we go, why did I want to attend college? I am preparing for life after the military so I can be more successful in the civilian world. It is crucial for me to strive for a higher standard of performance in our workforce; higher education will reflect better on me and give me the tools I need to succeed in my future career. A lot of the people in this field do not obtain higher education specific to the everyday operations of a life in real estate sales, so having this knowledge base will give me the upper hand in my market. I am looking to gain a positive experience from the decision I have made for myself. One positive experience I hope to take away from attaining higher education is being able to network with different types of people, and attending a university will give me that chance. I believe that creating relationships through networking would be beneficial to me and learning exactly how to connect with people on different levels whether it is age, culture, or just the diverse outlooks on life someone might come by in the wide range of situations associated with my career choice. The feeling of self accomplishment I would achieve upon completion would be of great personal value for me to take away. It will give me the confidence that I need to achieve my goals.

Why go to college? Why would someone spend thousands of dollars to sit in yet another classroom? My uncle says “people that get a degree make over a million dollars more in a lifetime.” My dad counters that with “the world needs ditch diggers too.” I came to college to start my life, to become an independent man who finds his niche among society. I suppose some people can do that outside of school but I find college to be an optimum transition to the adult life as it teaches practical skills, instills a greater appreciation of the world, and makes one discontent with inequities in the community.…

To say that I dedicated numerous amounts of hours deciphering the purpose of why I’m going to college would be a lie. For years I have always thought that college is somewhere you just go after high school. I believed that it is only somewhere you go to start your career and in turn make a lot of money. In fact, this “purpose” is what has been institutionalized within U.S. citizens under this Capitalist system. We are told to go to college so we can get jobs where we can make money, buy a big house, start a family, and live the lifestyles we have always dreamed of. For a very long time this was my only goal in life: to go to college so I can get a well-paying job to afford the lifestyle that I want to live. I never put much thought into what…

Aside from the inspiring role models I gratefully have and the never-ending encouragement my family provides me with, my personal motivation for proceeding onto college are countless. Some of the larger reasons why I choose to go to college are because I see that college offers a variety of opportunities that is not offered anywhere else. For instance, college offers courses that will further one’s experience in a certain field, preparing one for the real world before one can successfully thrive in the fast-paced and volatile world. Not only will I obtain and expose myself to “the tough stuff,” which includes countless demanding college courses, I am also building a stronger profile of myself with the challenging classes I will partake for professionals who will review my resume when I apply for a job or go to a job interview (Graff 225). Going to college will allow me to be an independent individual because it will be essential for me learn how to make a living on my own. I will no longer have my parents or siblings to help and look out for me anymore. I am required to take control of my life and basically learn how to survive on my own. My college education will be highly beneficial because obtaining a college degree and/or a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) will open more doors for me considering that the fact that some employers “do not even interview applicants who do not hold a B.A.” (Graff 233). Therefore, I will have an advantage over those who do not have a B.A. Many may argue that there have been successful stories that did not involve a college education, however the chances of that are very low. Furthermore, my desire to be influenced by a new and diverse group of people leads me to go to college. I wish to be influenced by more and intelligent people who hold perceptions contrary to mine, so I can…

    Why I Attend College

Why am I attending college? I enrolled in school for a few reasons. First off I was told that to get a Five Rating (the highest rating) on my next Enlisted Performance Report would have to have completed or be enrolled in college. So in order to keep myself on a strong footing for promotion I needed to head back to school. Second, I am looking to better myself not for a performance report but for myself. Completing college is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now. At my previous assignment I worked many long hours which made it impossible for me to attend school or have much of life for that matter. So now with my new assignment and much lighter work load I no longer have the work excuse. I originally went to Community College after I graduated high school but left in my sophomore year to join the Air Force. I planned on continuing once I was in and did initially but school took a backseat to other things. So in order to correct the errors of my youth I thought would give it another try and see if I can do better as an adult.…

Lastly, another purpose of higher education is simply just to learn. Even if you don’t have a plan or a particular job that you want to pursue higher education is always there to take advantage of and learn something you haven’t before. You don’t have to be a certain age, race, or religion. College is like one big community, we are all here for different reasons but one purpose and that is to learn. No one knows everything and there is always something new to gain knowledge about. That to me is the most beautiful thing about higher…

Do you have dreams? Well, I certainly do! I always had dreams of becoming a successful person in life, wealthy, working in a plush corner office, with all the trappings enjoyed by a senior executive! Now, dreams are good, provided we work on them, plan our goals accordingly, work towards those goals in a focused manner, and last but not the least, be passionate, motivated and persistent, in doing all it takes to achieve them. I would like to give below one of my favorite quotes by Mr. Paul J Meyer, which goes as follows. Quote: “Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people's criticisms, carry out your plan.” – Late Paul J Meyer, Founder and owner of Leadership Management International. Unquote. One of the most important goals in my mission to achieve my dreams is to undergo formal college education. In fact, it is one of my most important goals. The ongoing paragraphs shall elucidate my thoughts on this. I shall first start with basic education, and its importance, before moving on to college education, and its importance to me.…
