Earn as many points as possible.
Score at least 50 points.
Encourage a positive relation with the other parties.

2) & 3) What are the issues in the upcoming negotiation? Prioritize.

Issue 1-Employment rules: This is the most important issue as any union presence will help in preventing Harborco from introducing labor saving technologies into the port.
Issue 2- Federal Loans: The project will be more likely to get started with a federal loan and there will be long term success and stability in the project with their support.
Issue 3- Industry mix: This is also important as it will determine the number of jobs that will be available
Issue 4- Compensation to other Ports: No compensation to other ports could result in layoffs which needs to be avoided.

4) Defining my interests

The Deepwater Port in seaborne is of high interest for the union as it has the potential for creating many new jobs. Therefore we need to make sure that we are included when it comes to the distribution of jobs by Harborco. 5) Knowing your limits and Alternatives (BATNA):

When I plan and organise a meeting I have to ensure everything is taken into consideration in order to help guarantee the meeting runs smoothly and everything is as the Councillors and officers expect it to be. First on the list is to ensure a room has been booked and if it hasn’t to book a room for the appropriate time and ensure there is sufficient parking available for the Councillors and any external officers. I do this by calling Mouchel and booking sufficient spaces to comply with the amount of people it is needed for. This information is then sent over to our receptionists to put out a sign in the morning of the meeting to hold the spaces for the time required and this acts as a sign post for the officers who are unsure where they have been allocated as there names will be on the sign. For some meetings Lunch vouchers are required as it can sometimes go on all day. For example, Health Scrutiny Committee for Lincolnshire has a formal meeting from 10a.m. – 1p.m. and continues on after lunch with an informal workshop for Councillors. To issue these lunch vouchers a template is printed off for the required amount of people and signed by a manager or section leader for example; my team leader would sign these if I required them for a meeting.…

If this were a real case the main issue would have come from the environmental league and the other ports. For environmental league they did not have legal basis to oppose to the port provided it was within the legal parameters. With respect to other ports there could have been a problem if there was no compensation paid to them because it was not legally binding. However, it would have meant spoilt relations with other state governors if no compensation were not paid. This could be avoided by balancing between parties and making them exchange information freely and understanding the real issues for each party. Concession from each party would be needed to arrive at a solution than can be of value to every party.…

Conducting a time analysis was a pretty eye opening experience for me. I analyzed my time from Saturday 6/15 through Friday 6/21. As a family man, the fact that I spend a great deal of my time, over half, during the course of a week working and sleeping is somewhat unsettling (see Figure 1 – Weekly Time Analysis). I spend an average of 55 hours per week working, a minimum of 11 hours each day, 5 days a week. I slept approximately 5-6 hours per night, a total of 40 hours for the week. The combination of the two is about 56.5% of my week’s time. Studying took up around 20 hours or approximately 12 %. I spent 7 hours in my car during the week, which was to and from work for the most part. Family time, eating, and recreation was a total of 43 combined hours or 25.6%. “Other” consisted of a handful of other activities and was about 3 hours of my week. Seeing how few hours I actually spend with my family doesn’t sit well. Yet, knowing I work the long hours I do for the betterment of my family makes it all worth it.…
