In this community there are a growing percentage of high school students who are dropping out. There are many reasons for this alarming trend in our community some being economical and others are based on the socioeconomic status of the population in general. Due to the depressed economy, many local companies are moving to other areas in an attempt to maintain competitive economic incentives for employees. When this happens, property taxes which support funding for high school programs has diminished in the last few years, resulting in the loss of qualified teachers and no funds to hire new positions. This has in turned left high school students feeling lost and hopeless with no hope of having a better quality of life. This is where the proposal for the organization I will be directing comes in.…

Many of the students enrolled in our independent study charter school come from a low socioeconomic background and are academic underperformers, especially in mathematics. Most students lack the time and resources to be able to attend school multiple days a week or to spend extra time working with their teachers to improve their lagging mathematics scores. At the same time, many teachers are asked to deliver classroom instruction on mathematics topics that they likely have no specific training or credential in. In addition, these teachers often only have a very limited amount of time to work with each individual student before they must move onto the next. These obstacles make it more difficult for these students to complete the required course load.…

The community began has a rural community and has maintained many aspects of its rural roots as the Houston Metropolitan area has expanded around it. However, there are several problems facing the current population of Acres Home. These are the questions that arise when examining retention and advancements. This paper will study the practice of grade level retention, briefly examining the historical perspectives that have driven the state statutes that govern the practice of grade level retention. This paper will continue by examining current state practices and how said statutes are incorporated into our San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) local promotion and retention policy. The paper will conclude by offering some insight into how the local policy can be altered to more closely align with the state statutes, as well as successful policies of neighboring districts. Those are the two years prior to high school that state testing occurs. According to the Texas Education Association (TEA) 2011-2012 dropout data shown in Table 1, the SAISD retained 8 of 3903 fifth…

“Achievement data generally target learning outcomes, such as grades and performance and standardized test scores” (Dollarhide & Saginak, 2012, p. 110). The ASCA National Model outlines a variety of methods that can be used in order to obtain this data. One method defined is the Results Report, which aligns with results data. The Results Report collects data is recorded and distributed to administrators, parents, and teachers in order to be disaggregated and reviewed in order to evaluate program effectiveness and areas that need improvement (Dollarhide & Saginak, 2012, p. 116). The Results Report includes components such as grade level, lesson content area, curriculum and materials used, process data, short-term perception data, intermediate and long-term results.
