Place Attachment And Place Identity
Place attachment and place identity are concepts that have been thought of independently as well as intertwined with each other. Various professional fields use place and identity theory; I combine the differing perspectives to form definitions for my study. Previous research causes me to view place attachment as foundational with place identity expanding on the concept of place attachment. The definition of place attachment that I prescribe to is the examination of the social and/or physical bonds individuals form between themselves and a meaningful place. I define place identity as the elements associated with a person’s identity that is imposed onto their built environment and sense of place through intentional and unintentional means.
