Pitbulls Should Be Illegal
I am a firm believer of Pit-bulls making good pets. They can be as vicious as a pup if raised correctly. Yes, they can and will be protective at times, but that is because they adore you, not because they are blood-thirsty beasts. Some states are passing laws to make these adorable, caring dogs illegal, which I stand against completely. If that should be the case, however, all dogs should be illegal, not just one breed. Chihuahuas are usually more aggressive than Pit-bulls. According to studies done multiple times, the commonly misinterpreted Pit-bull cannot even “lock” its jaw, it only has a very strong jaw muscle. Under x-rays, putting a Pit-bull next to a pug shows that they do indeed have the same jaw structure. Pit-bulls shouldn’t be judged by their pointy, perked ears and brick-like heads, but by their compassionate personality that …show more content…
If you’re going to get one of these animals, then be prepared to care and love. An irresponsible, cruel person shouldn’t own any dog, period. Much less a Pit-bull. Treat that dog like any dignified human being would want to be treated! Moving right along, Pit-bulls haven’t always had the bad reputation they have today. Over the years, other dogs have been blamed for “dangerous” and “ruthless” acts. In the 70’s, the Dobermans were blamed. In the 80’s it was the German Shepard’s turn. Next, in the 90’s, Rottweiler’s committed the crime. Now it’s the Pit-bulls turn, and people are going against them head-on, and all I can say is that they are barking up the wrong tree. Blaming dogs for the wrong-doings of humans is inhumane itself. In conclusion, Pit-bulls can be as dangerous as a butterfly if raised and cared for with love, sympathy, and compassion. Rallying Pit-bulls against danger is like saying blondes are dumb, or red-heads have a fiery temper. If you don’t fit into that stereotype, then why should

Pit Bulls are commonly recognized as wild, vicious and inherently dangerous animals, which is false. “Singling out a particular breed or type of dog has repeatedly been proven to be ineffective because breed alone is not predictive of whether a dog may pose a danger” (The HSUS). How can you look at any given dog or certain breed of dog and know whether it is dangerous, just by the way it looks? The answer to that question is, you can’t.…

Known to be inherently vicious and one of the only dogs to have locking jaw, were once one of America’s favourite dogs. Unpredictable and can never be trusted are just some more misconceptions of this well behaved dog. This breed is called a Pit Bull. Pit Bulls are not a breed but dogs put in to a category based on their appearances. Those who fall into this category should have a big head with a short, square muzzle, brindle in colour, large in size, muscular build, docked tails and many more characteristics. The thing is, some of these are not even common to Pit Bulls (Pit Bull University). Pit Bulls are the most misunderstood dogs in today’s society and things don’t seem to be lighting up. The breed should not be banned because it is not…

Unfortunately in today's society there have been many cases of over breeding for this dog which has created temperament problems in their bloodlines, leading to inconsistent behavior. Pit Bulls over bred today are usually used to fight illegally in run down urban areas or are kept outside and are used to guard junkyards, people's houses or private property. The over breeding of these dogs led to people housing them that were not qualified to handle this breed. Though they do not get overly large they have a body mass that can weigh up to 90 pounds, and a lockjaw with 800 pounds of pressure. These dogs are very smart, but require a lot of care and attention. The Pit Bull will also learn to imitate the behavior of its owner. People who neglect these dogs or use aggressive force to train them will often have an aggressive dog likely to turn and attack. When kept in safe living conditions and trained properly these dogs are excellent family pets with a natural guard dog instinct to protect its…

Some people think that Pit Bulls are inherently vicious but that is not true, Pit Bulls are only vicious if someone makes them that way. There are not bad dogs, only bad people. A pit bull is not inherently vicious, if they are aggressive and attack, either the person most likely deserved it or they were trained to do so. Furthermore, Pit bulls are no more vicious than Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and other well known dogs. There was a recent study by the American Temperament Testing Society that tested 122 dog breeds and Pit Bulls had a passing score of 86.8%. Pit Bulls ranked fourth for the highest passing breed in this study. You are very unlikely to be fatally attacked by a Pit Bull. In fact, you are 60 times more likely to die from falling…

Despite this common opinion, an experiment was once performed. Fifty Pit Bulls were rescued from a fighting ring. Forty nine of the fifty dogs were rehabilitated. Some went to shelters such as Best Friends and many are well-loved family members today. The testing used to determine these dogs' ability to fit into society was exhaustive, extensive, and carefully carried out. Pit Bulls are different from other dogs and potential owners need to be made aware of the facts before considering rescuing or purchasing one. For example, a dog lover who has had Bichons all her life will be sorely surprised unless she does her homework and understand the bully breeds. Pits need a lot of structure, a very pronounced human alpha, training, exercise and lots of attention. The owner needs consistency, time, energy and quite possibly some…

Some of us would categorize American Pit Bull Terriers as goofy, protective, wonderful with children, loyal, and very loving animals. On the other hand, some people would categorize pit bulls as aggressive, bad with children, unpredictable, vicious, and horrible creatures. Many of these bad generalizations of pit bulls come from their negative background (caused by humans) and stereotypes.…

They are quite loyal dogs. Pit bulls tend to make terrible guard dogs, they love people too much. However, this is not always a good thing. Pmarinc says “because pit bulls are so people-orientated they do not make good guard dogs. Unless you just want them to smother intruders with hugs and kisses.” Also, because pit bulls love their owners so much, they will do anything for them. Even if their owner is a criminal commit crimes. The myth that pit bulls are extremely vicious is false, pit bulls are only vicious if you raise them to be. Pit bulls were bred to be in dog fights and that is why they got a bad…

Pit bulls and terrier breeds were created in early 19th century, for the popular spectator sports of bull- and bear-baiting. In 1898 the UKC, Britain's equivalent of the AKC, named these bull dogs the American Pit Bull Terrier. The AKC decided to recognize the breed in the early 1930s--but under a new name. Intending to separate it from its pit-fighting past, the AKC named it the American Staffordshire terrier, also known as a pit bull. These dogs have been used for protection not only in homes but in war, with the police and even with celebrities. Unfortunately, this same breed of dog now has a bad reputation, being called a vicious breed of dog and bully’s. I would have to disagree though, I believe that yes, there are some very mean pit bulls out there but there are also very nice and even famous ones. Not all pit bulls can be bad they aren’t born that way, they are raised that way. Saying a pit bull is born aggressive is kind of like saying a baby is born to hate.…
