Re: CB Field Asset Review Well Exercise

I have now posted nine “CB Field Asset Review Well” data packages on the “Course Documents” page of the PTE-461 website. You and your team will work on the well drawn, following the second hour exam.
Each data package is identified on the data package folder title. Each data package contains:
1.

LAS format log data file(s)

2.

Wireline/LWD Log Header and Footer images

3.

Directional Survey Summary Reports (deviated wells only)

4.

Formation top data files.

5.

TVD control files.

I conducted the initial Field –wide FE Review of the wells in this field when it was being considered for
Peripheral Water Flood, to restore reservoir pressure. By then, the field had been on production for about 20 years.
Some of the wells, in the current group may have been drilled relatively recently.
The above data packages contain information similar to what you might have available for wells in a field being reviewed for acquisition, disposal, or abandonment. The big difference between your situation and the real world is that you will have until 17.12.13 in which to complete your Formation Evaluation (FE), while you would be lucky to have one-two days/well, in the real world.
All six of these wells were drilled on the same structure (“field”) during

In order for this equipment to assist one in measuring the speed of sound, the speaker and microphone are positioned inside the hollow tube with the speaker stationary at one end. The microphone is able to be moved and set a chosen distance from the speaker, from almost touching to 1 meter. The signal generator is connected to the speaker by a pair of wires. From this pair of wires, another pair of wires connects the signal generator to the frequency meter. A set of wires also run from the signal generator to the oscilloscope. A separate set of wires is connected from the oscilloscope to the microphone inside the tube. The set up of the equipment allows for the output of the signal meter to be read and measured by the frequency meter while being led to the speaker. This input causes the speaker to vibrate, which produces sound waves inside the tube. These sound waves, picked up by the microphone, are then sent to the oscilloscope as a signal. A pattern is displayed on the screen of the oscilloscope. With the signals in phase, the patterned displayed is a straight diagonal line. With…

Wells are drilled vertically hundreds to thousands of feet below the land surface. Fractures are created by pumping large quantities of fluids at high pressure down a wellbore and into the target rock formation. Hydraulic fracturing fluid commonly consists of water, proppant and chemical additives that open and enlarge fractures within the rock formation. These fractures can extend several hundred feet away from the wellbore. The proppants - sand, ceramic pellets or other small incompressible particles - hold open the newly created fractures. Once the injection process is completed, the internal pressure of the rock formation causes fluid to return to the surface through the wellbore. This fluid is known as both "flowback" and "produced water" and may contain the injected chemicals plus naturally occurring materials such as brines, metals, radionuclides, and hydrocarbons. The flow back and produced water is typically stored on site in tanks or pits before treatment, disposal or recycling. In many cases, it is injected underground for disposal. In areas where that is not an option, it may be treated and reused or processed by a wastewater treatment facility and then discharged to surface water.” (“The Process of Hydraulic…
